Box Score NORTH CANTON, Ohio. – The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (14-7, 10-4 Great Midwest) traveled to Walsh University (8-12, 6-7 Great Midwest) on Saturday afternoon and won 57-52. With a pair of three-pointers today, Bayleigh Carmichel sets the new NCAA era record for most career threes with 129, surpassing Haley Felker, who had 127. The Trojans also reach double digit conference wins for the first time since the 2018-29 season.
THE SERIES
With today's win several firsts have happened for the Purple and White in the series. It is the first win at Walsh for Trevecca and the first time the Trojans have won two in a row against Walsh. The Trojans won the first meeting earlier this year (67-60 / January 7) in Nashville to snap the Cavalier's six-game win streak. The Cavs edge in the all-time series is now 7-4.
THE FLOW
Both teams struggled to generate offense in the first quarter, but the Trojans would strike first. But Walsh made a pair of free throws and took an 11-8 lead after the first quarter. Walsh got hot to start the second quarter as they extended their lead to 17-11. But the Trojans responded with a 6-2 run to get within 19-17 with 2:58 left in the half, off of four Keeley Carter points. Following a Bayleigh Carmichel three, they went into the half down 24-20.
The Trojans got hot to start the second half as they went on an 8-2 run highlighted by five Faith Wilken points to get within 29-28 with 3:18 left in the third quarter. Then the Trojans took a 39-37 lead to begin the fourth quarter off of another Faith Wilken three. They extended their lead off an 11-2 run where Emma Palmer scored five points to make it 52-45 with 5:13 left. Walsh made it close, but the Trojans held on to win.
THE PLAYERS
Keeley Carter led the Trojans with 19 points and nine rebounds. Faith Wilken had 13 points and seven rebounds. Emma Palmer added 10 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double.
THE TEAMS
The Trojans shot 35.8% (19-53) from the floor, 30.4% (7-23) from three-point range, and 75% (12-16) from the free-throw line. The Trojans outrebounded Walsh 44-36.
UP NEXT
The Trojans return for a meeting against Kentucky Wesleyan (15-4, 11-1 Great Midwest) at 5:30 PM on Tuesday. The Panthers lead the series 16-5 and have won the last 12 meetings. Trevecca last beat KWC, 54-49, on January 25, 2016.
