Trevecca Men's Basketball | Trojans Fall Just Short in Painesville

PAINESVILLE– The Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball team (1-17, 0-12 Great Midwest) traveled to Lake Erie College (10-8, 7-5 Great Midwest) on Thursday night and fell 66-60.

THE SERIES

With the win, Lake Erie pushes their lead in the all-time series to 8-1. They also sweep the season series after an 82-79 win on the Hill on January 5^th.

THE FLOW

The first 12 minutes were tightly contested, with the lead changing hands multiple times as both teams battled for control. Then Gus Davenport hit a three to make it 12-11 in favor of the Trojans. A few minutes later, the Storm got the ball rolling their way and took back the lead late in the first half. Jake Mulder and Connor Martin scored to bring it closer, but the Trojans went into halftime down 27-19.

To begin the second half, Trevecca clicked on offense when Lawrence Brazil III hit a three to begin a 7-2 run, bringing the Trojans within 29-26 with 17:11 left. However, Lake Erie responded a built their lead back up to 10 points. Later in the half, a pair of Josh Goings free-throws and a pair of Connor Martin three got the Trojans within 51-49 with 5:11 remaining. The teams would trade baskets, but time would run out on the Trojan's rally.

THE PLAYERS

Josh Goings led the Trojans with 22 points and nine rebounds. Connor Martin had nine points. Caleb Terry also had nine rebounds.

THE TEAMS

The Trojans shot 38.9% (21-54) from the floor, 27.6% (8-29) from three-point range, and 62.5% (10-16) from the free-throw line. The Trojans outrebounded Lake Erie 38-33.

UP NEXT

On Saturday at 2:00 PM, the Trojans will take on Walsh University (12-7, 9-3 Great Midwest). The Trojans snapped Walsh's six-game win streak on January 7^th with a 67-60 win at Trojan Fieldhouse.
