Box Score NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (12-6, 8-3 Great Midwest) hosted conference newcomer Northwood University (7-10, 4-6 Great Midwest) on Thursday night and won 80-69.
THE SERIES
The Trojans took the first-ever meeting earlier this season on December 1st, 79-77, in Midland. The Trojans now lead the series 2-0 and sweep the season series.
THE FLOW
Teams were evenly matched to begin the first quarter, but Northwood took control of the game after the Trojans took a 7-6 lead off of an Emma Palmer layup. Northwood finished the first quarter on an 11-1 run which made it 17-8. The Trojans cut the deficit to 19-15 on a 7-2 run, where Emma Palmer scored five points. Later in the quarter, a Bayleigh Carmichel three-pointer kickstarted a 12-3 run that gave the Trojans a 33-29 lead at halftime.
The Trojans continued their momentum into the second half as they extended their lead to 12 with a 12-2 run, which saw Keeley Carter score seven points to make it 47 -35 with 4:36 left in the third quarter. Northwood attempted to chip away at their deficit, and the Trojan's lead was 51-41 going into the final frame. Teams traded baskets as time passed, and Northwood cut the Trojan's lead to 67-60 with 3:09 left in the game. However, the Trojans would hold on to win 80-69.
THE PLAYERS
Emma Palmer led the Trojans with 19 points and eight rebounds. Keeley Carter had 16 points and seven rebounds. Bayleigh Carmichel had 10 points and five rebounds.
THE TEAMS
The Trojans shot 50.9% (28-55) from the floor, 38.1% (8-21) from three-point range, and 76.2% (16-21) from the free-throw line. The Trojans outrebounded Northwood 41-27.
