Box Score NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (5-4, 2-1 Great Midwest) hosted Cedarville University (2-5, 1-2 Great Midwest) on Thursday night and won 75-61 at Trojan Fieldhouse. It was the first win for the Trojans over the Yellow Jackets since a 69-60 TNU win on February 12, 2015. Since then, CU rolled off 14 consecutive wins.
THE SERIES
Cedarville still has the all-time lead after the loss to the Trojans, leading the all-time series 17-4 through 21 meetings. Trevecca took the first two games in the series, sweeping both regular season games in 2012-2013, but Cedarville had won 17 of the last 18 meetings.
THE FLOW
The teams traded a couple of buckets to start the game. Then following a 5-5 tie, the Trojans went on a dominant 14-4 run to end the first quarter. Lili Wilken had five points, and Emma Palmer had a pair of buckets during the run. In the second quarter, Cedarville chipped away at the Trojan's lead. They tied it up at 30-30 with just under two minutes left in the half. The Trojans added a pair of buckets to go into halftime up 35-30.
The Trojans came out strong in the second half, as they went on a 9-3 run to make it 44-33 with 5:33 left in the quarter. The Trojans had a 14-3 combined run when including the 5-0 close to the first half. Keeley Carter and Faith Wilkin made three-pointers during the run. The teams traded buckets, with the Trojans slightly increasing their lead as they went into the fourth quarter up 54-41. The Trojans commanded the fourth quarter as Lili Wilken, Emma Palmer, and Faith Wilken put the Trojans up big as they led by as much as 21 points, which was too much for Cedarville.
THE PLAYERS
Four Trojans had double-digit points, starting with Keeley Carter, who led the Trojans with 19 points and eight rebounds. Lili Wilken had 15 points and an assist. Emma Palmer had 14 points and seven rebounds. Faith Wilken added 12 points and four rebounds.
THE TEAMS
The Trojans shot 51.8% (29-56) from the floor, 41.7% (10-24) from three-point range, and 70% (7-10) from the free-throw line. The Trojans outrebounded Cedarville 36-35 and had a 21-13 advantage in bench points.
UP NEXT
The Trojans will host Ursuline College (5-3, 2-0 Great Midwest) on Saturday at 1:00 PM. The Trojans are 8-10 all-time against the Arrows, but UC has dominated the series in recent seasons. TNU won the first seven meetings including a 100-47 win in the second all-time meeting on January 26, 2013. The Arrows have returned the favor winning. 10 of the last 11 meetings. The last Trojan win in the series was a 76-73 win at Trojan Fieldhouse on January 31, 2019. No current Trojan has experienced a win over the Arrows. UC has won the last four meetings.
