Trevecca Women's Basketball | Trojans Surpass 2021-22 Win Total with Victory Over Ursuline

NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (6-4, 3-1 Great Midwest) hosted Ursuline College (5-5, 2-2 Great Midwest) on Saturday afternoon and won 76-60 at Trojan Fieldhouse. With the win, the Trojans now have more wins (6) than the entire 2021-22 season (5).

THE SERIES

Ursuline leads the all-time series 10-9 between the two original members of the Great Midwest. This win snaps a four-game Ursuline winning streak. The Trojans last won on January 31, 2019. Trevecca won the first seven meetings.  

THE FLOW

The first quarter was a tight-knit affair, as neither team could gain a lead of more than three points. The lead changed numerous times, including when Bayleigh Carmichel made a three-pointer to give the Trojans a 14-11 lead with 2:50 left in the quarter. After another tie, Keeley Carter gave the Trojans the 18-16 lead as the first quarter ended. She continued the scoring run in the second quarter as she tallied seven straight points during that span as she made it 23-16. The Trojans finished the half on a 9-4 run and went into the break up 34-25. 

Ursuline scored first in the third quarter before Keeley Carter scored seven straight points to give the Trojans a 14-point lead. Ursuline fought back to cut the deficit to 49-38 with just under three minutes left in the third quarter, but Bayleigh Carmichel made a pair of three-pointers as the quarter ended with the Trojans up 55-38. The Trojans continued to build their lead in the fourth quarter. Magdalena Dunai made a three-pointer with 6:19 left to give the Trojans a 67-46 lead. The Trojans led by as many as 23 points and finished the game strong.

THE PLAYERS

Keeley Carter led the Trojans with 16 points and five rebounds. Bayleigh Carmichel had 14 points, and Emma Palmer added 15 points and eight rebounds.

THE TEAMS

The Trojans shot 43.7% (31-71) from the floor, 33.3% (8-24) from three-point range, and 42.9% (6-14) from the free-throw line. The Trojans outrebounded Ursuline 42-37 and had a 26-19 advantage in bench points.

UP NEXT 

The Trojans go on the road next Saturday and will take on Malone University (6-2, 3-0 Great Midwest) at 12:00 PM.
