Trevecca Women's Basketball | Emma Palmer Powers Trojans Past UAH for Coach Karen Booker's First W

NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (1-2) took out the Chargers of the University of Alabama-Huntsville (0-3)  75-59 in the Trojans home opener in Trojan Fieldhouse on Wednesday night. It was the first regular-season win of the season and of the Karen Booker era at Trevecca. Trevecca did beat Fisk in an exhibition on Homecoming.

THE SERIES

Trevecca leads the all-time series 8-3 and has won four of the last five in the series. The Purple and White have won two in a row now, beating the Chargers 67-60 on November 18, 2021. Faith Wilken had 25 points and Emma Palmer added 12 in the win. Wilken grabbed 12 rebounds for the double-double. An interesting side note in the series is that current Trevecca head coach Karen Booker officiated the very first meeting in the series. It was a 65-60 Trevecca win on December 8, 2012. One of the very first NCAA Division I games for the Trojans.

THE FLOW

Trevecca came out of the locker room on fire, hitting back-to-back three-pointers off the fingertips of Bayleigh Carmichel and Mattie Buck. The Chargers bounced back with a 7-0 run for a 7-6 lead. The game remained tight the rest of the half until the Trojans gained a little space as the half ended. With 3:16 left in the second quarter, UAH led 29-28. A 7=0 run to close the half by the Trojans made it a six-point (36-29) lead at the break.

The Trojans started the second half as they did the first with a pair of three-pointers, UAH scored a field goal between three-point bombs from Lili Wilken and Mattie Buck to set the Trojan lead at 10 (41-31).

The Chargers chipped away and with 7:05 left in the third quarter, the TNU lead was down to four (43-39). Trevecca turned the game in their favor for good, outscoring the visitors 18-6 to close the third for a 61-45 edge heading to the fourth. The run was ignited by Emma Palmer who started the run with three straight baskets, pushing the lead from four to 10 in less than 60 seconds.

The Trojans held a double-digit lead the rest of the way, including a 21-point (73-52) lead with 4:27 to go, and finished with a 75-59 victory.

THE PLAYERS

Emma Palmer led the way with a double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Pamer hit 8-10 from the field and both free throws. Bayleigh Carmichel and Keeley Carter each added 10 points.

THE TEAMS

The Trojans shot 42% (29-69) from the field, 32% (7-22) from three, and 62.5% (10-16) from the foul line. Trevecca owned the boards 41-34 and led the turnover category 18-11. Trevecca held UAH to just 28% (4-14) from deep.

Trevecca outscored UAH 40-12 in points off the bench, 17-7 on second-chance opportunities, and 20-12 in points scored off of a turnover.

UP NEXT 

The Trojans visit Tennessee Tech (2-1) on Thursday at 5:30 PM in their final exhibition game of the year. The Trojans return home Saturday at 1 PM when they host the University of Missouri St. Louis (0-2) in Trojan Fieldhouse.
