Box Score BOLIVAR, Mo. – The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (0-1) fell to Southwest Baptist University (1-0) by a score of 75-72 at the Midwest Region Crossover in Bolivar to open the regular season.
THE SERIES
This was the second-ever meeting between the two teams. The Bearcats took the first meeting last November, 67-54. The series is now 0-2 in favor of the Bearcats.
THE MATCH
Southwest Baptist roared out to a strong start in the first quarter as they had a 25-9 lead as the first quarter ran down. The Trojans fought back in the second quarter as they went on a 14-4 run to end the half. Emma Palmer led the charge and tallied seven points to take the Trojans into halftime trailing 42-30.
The Trojans came back in the third quarter as they cut their deficit to 51-50 following a 20-9 run which was led by four points by Jayda Woods and a steal as well from her. Both teams traded leads in the fourth quarter, but Southwest Baptist would put the game away with 13 seconds remaining as they made two free throws that made the game 75-72, which the Trojans would not be able to overcome.
PLAYER STATS BREAKDOWN
Keeley Carter led the Trojans with 26 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Lili Wilken was second on the team with 15 points, six rebounds, and two assists. Emma Palmer had 11 points and four rebounds.
TEAM STATS BREAKDOWN
The Trojans shot 37.7% (26-69) from the floor, 27.3% (6-22) from three-point range, and 82.4% (14-17) from the free-throw line. The Trojans outrebounded Southwest Baptist 38-34.
