Trevecca Women's Basketball | Trojans Earn First Great Midwest Win, Score a Season-High Against Ohio Dominican

NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (2-11, 1-6 Great Midwest) laid claim to its first Great Midwest win of the season beating Ohio Dominican University (1-11, 1-5 Great Midwest) 81-65 on Monday afternoon in Trojan Fieldhouse.

THE SERIES

The Trojans made it back-to-back wins over the Panthers, having downed the Panthers 68-62 in Nashville last season. ODU leads the all-time series 6-2 through eight games.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Trojans trailed just twice all game, the first after surrendering an opening 3-pointer to Kennedy Schlabach and next after the Panthers collected a Bailey Williams basket. The opening quarter would be tied on three occasions, but the Trojans saw out a 24-21 lead much in part to Alex McFarlin's three made 3-pointers. 

In the second, the Trojans extended their three-point lead to 12 by spreading the ball around. Six Trojans scored in the frame, as Palmer scored six of her 20 in the quarter.

Facing a 12-point deficit, the Panthers did not go away. The third quarter belonged to the visitors who outscored Trevecca by eight to cut it to a 57-53 contest after three periods. 

In the end, the Trojans doubled up the Panthers in the fourth (24-12), winning 81-65.

PLAYER PERFORMANCE

Emma Palmer followed up her 16 points effort to begin the year against Cedarville with a 20-point showing. Palmer also collected seven rebounds. Keeley Carter finished with a 17-point, 10 rebounds double-double. Alex McFarlin (14) and Bayleigh Carmichel (11) also touched double digits.

TEAM STATS

The Trojans just missed shooting 50% from the field, 30-61 (49.2%), and were 8-19 (42.1%) from 3-point range. The Trojans won the rebound battle 43-39 and dished out four more assists, 17-13.

UP NEXT   

The Trojans hit the road for most of January, embarking on a five-game road trip which begins in Ashland, Ohio on Thursday when they take on Great Midwest newcomer and league-leading, Ashland University (11-1, 6-0 Great Midwest) at 4:30 p.m.
