SERIES HISTORY/NOTES

It was the fourth ever meeting between the two programs, and Lake Erie evened up the all-time series 2-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Both teams were sluggish offensively to start, and Trevecca was able to stay in it throughout the second half with its defense. Brendan Newton was dominant on the boards early, pulling down five rebounds in the first five minutes, but foul trouble slowed the Liberty transfer. Lake Erie jumped out to a 20-8 lead with 07:32 to play before the break, but Trevecca responded with an 8-0 run capped off by a Michael Miller bucket off the bench to cut the Storm lead to four with 4:12 to go. The Trojans and Storm each scored four points in the final four minutes of the half, as Lake Erie led 24-20 at the break.

The Trojans entered a scoring drought right off the top in the second half, unable to find the bottom of the net until 16:07 to play, trailing 34-22 as Imani Starling ended the cold streak with a jump shot. The tough shooting night continued throughout the second half, despite Miller and Jaylon Tharpe's efforts off the bench. Lake Erie was able to hit free throws to extend the lead throughout the night and extended the lead to as much as 17. Trevecca was never able to find its shooting form, and the Trojans fell 69-54 to hand Lake Erie its first win of the season.

PLAYER STATS BREAKDOWN

Jaylon Tharpe led the way off the bench for the Trojans with 11 points on five of eight shooting, adding seven rebounds. Miller scored on four of his five field goal attempts for a career high eight points, as Chris Rogers added eight points and Starling scored nine for the Trojans.

Lake Erie's Jacob Plantz and Jackson Burdyshaw each scored 13 points with nine rebounds.

TEAM STATS BREAKDOWN

Trevecca had one of its worst shooting nights of the season, hitting 22-of-69 attempts (32%). The Trojans really struggled from downtown, scoring only four of their 24 three-point shots (16.7%). Trevecca outrebounded Lake Erie 42-40, and turned the ball over 12 times while forcing 10.

Lake Erie also had a poor shooting night, hitting seven of 26 three-pointers (27%). The Storm – a 57% free throw shooting team coming into the game – did hit 18 of their 21 free throws.

WHAT'S NEXT

Trevecca will hit the road on Thursday for a matchup at Cedarville, and stay on the road for games at Tiffin, Ohio Dominican, and Lake Erie. Trevecca is back home on February 20 to host Kentucky Wesleyan.
