Trevecca Women's Basketball | Trojans Respond with Win Over Ohio Dominican, Host Lake Erie Saturday

NASHVILLE - The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (2-2, 2-2 Great Midwest) defeated Ohio Dominican University (10-4, 10-4 Great Midwest), 68-62, for the first win in program history over the Panthers.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES

Trevecca wins for the first time in seven all-time meetings between the two universities. The Panthers lead the series 6-1 now. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trevecca's Alex McFarlin nailed three-pointers 15 seconds into the game and Kaitlynn Wilks hit a runner in the lane for a 5-0 start for the Trojans. The Panthers, who are second in the league, answered with a 9-0 run to take the lead with 5:24 left in the first quarter. With :53 left in the first, Grace Baird nailed the first of two 3-pointers to tie the game at 11. Faith Wilken hit another runner with :03 seconds left to put the Trojans up 13-11 at the break.

Wilken hit a three to open the second for a 16-11 Trojan lead. Olivia Fox converted a layup with 6:43 left, tying the score at 20-20. The teams went to the half tied at 29-29. 

A Kennedy Schlabach three with 8:35 left in the third put the Panthers up five again (34-29). Trevecca chipped away and tied the game 40-40 with 4:16 left in the third. Neither team gained separation until a 6-0 Trojan run (back-to-back three-pointers by Keeley Carter and Alex McFarlin) put the Trojans up 50-44 with 8:22 left in the fourth. With 6:04 left Grace Baird hit another three, this one put the Trojans up seven (66-48). The Panthers fought back and were within one (57-56) when Schlabach hit a three with 3:49 left. The Panthers tied the game at 60-60 with 2:42 left, but the young Trojans responded. Trevecca outscored Ohio Dominican 8-2 down the stretch for a six-point win. 

PLAYER STATS REPORT

Faith Wilken (18) and Olivia Pepperman (12) led the team in scoring. Wilken added a team-high eight rebounds and hit 3-7 from three-point range. Keeley Carter and Kaitlynn Wilks added seven rebounds each, Carter scored nine and led the team with three assists and three steals.

Angela Troyer had a game-high 21 points for the Panthers. Olivia Fox added 12 points and 13 rebounds.  

TEAM STATS BREAKDOWN

Trevecca shot 35% (24-69) from the field and hit 33% (9-27) from three-point range. TNU outscored ODU in every quarter except the second. ODU is averaging 82.5 points per game, but the Trojans limited them to just 62 tonight. The TNU bench outscored the visitor's bench 16-5. 

The game was tied 12 times with six lead changes.

WHAT'S NEXT   

Trevecca hosts Lake Erie College (1-12, 1-12 Great Midwest) on Saturday at 1:30 PM. On Monday, Walsh University (8-4, 8-4 Great Midwest) visits for a 4:30 PM game. The Trojans hit the road for games at Cedarville University (15-1, 15-1 Great Midwest) and Tiffin University (10-5, 10-5 Great Midwest) on the 11th and 13th of February.
