Trevecca Men's Basketball | Trojans Outlast Dragons on the Road, Beat Tiffin 70-69

TIFFIN, Ohio – The Trevecca Nazarene University Men's Basketball team (4-14, 4-12 Great Midwest) picked up a crucial road win in Great Midwest play, knocking off Tiffin University (5-10, 5-10 Great Midwest), 70-69, at the Gillmor Center.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES

Trevecca and Tiffin stand level in their all-time series, 3-3. Tiffin won earlier this season, but Trevecca leads the NCAA era series 3-2. Trevecca has won three of the last four in the series.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After both teams scored an opening basket in the first 90 seconds, Trevecca outscored the Tiffin 13-2 for a 15-4 advantage with 15:52 left. The initial surge was a mix of a pair of dunks from Brendan Newton and Adam Webb and a pair of threes from Chris Rogers and Calvin Walker. After the Dragons cut the Trojan lead to four (15-11 / 13:10), TNU scored eight straight, pulling ahead by 12 (23-11 / 11:24). Austin Wills hit a three, putting the Trojans up 12 (28-16) with 10:05 left in the half. Neither team scored again until Michael Miller scored on a layup with 7:50 left, giving the Trojans their largest lead at 14 (30-16). Tiffin didn't score again until Thomas Hickman hit a jumper with 5:03 left in the half. Tharpe. If you're counting, that is more than five minutes of game time the Trojans held the Dragons scoreless. When Adam Webb scored with 25 seconds left in the half, the Trojans equaled their largest lead at 15 (43-28) The half time score settled at 43-29.

Webb scored the first basket of the second half, putting TNU up 45-29 with 19:12 to go. With 13:47 left, Trevecca led by 13 (50-37). That's when Tiffin closed the gap with a 9-0 run, pulling to within four (50-46) with 11:08 to go. Trevecca pulled ahead by 11 (61-50 / 6:12) and led by seven (70-63) with 1:05 left. Tiffin scored the final six of the game, but the Trojans escaped with the one point, 70-69, win.

PLAYER STATS BREAKDOWN

Chris Rogers led the Trojans in scoring with 18 and was joined in double figures by Imani Starling and Calvin Walker who added 10 apiece. Adam Webb grabbed 10 rebounds and added five assists and a block with his eight points.

TEAM STATS BREAKDOWN

Trevecca shot a season-high 52.9% (27-51) from the field and equaled their season-high, connecting on 11 three-pointers. The 70 points for Trevecca today are the third most this season.

WHAT'S NEXT

Two more road games are on the schedule. Monday, Trevecca visits Ohio Dominican University (4-8, 4-9 Great Midwest) at 5:30 PM. Trevecca owns a two-game win streak in the series, breaking a four-game win streak for the Panthers in the series. ODU leads the all-time series 4-3.

On Thursday, the Trojans visit Lake Erie College (1-10, 1-10 Great Midwest) Thursday at 4:30 PM. This is the fifth all-time meeting; the Storm leads the series 3-1. Their only win this year came against the Trojans on February 6 at Trojan Fieldhouse.

Trevecca is back home for a G-MAC battle on February 20 with the visiting Panthers of Kentucky Wesleyan College (10-4, 9-4 Great Midwest) coming to Trojan Fieldhouse for a 4:15 tip. It is the 17^th all-time meeting in the series, one the Panthers have dominated. KWC leads the series 13-3 and beat TNU 53-39 on December 31 to deny the Trojans back-to-back wins in the series. The first two wins in the series were back-to-back in 2015 and 2016. Trevecca defeated KWC at the close of the 2019-2020 season, breaking an eight-game win streak for the Panthers in the series.

The final regular-season game is on Saturday, February 27 when Ohio Valley University (3-10, 3-10 Great Midwest) visits for a 4:15 PM tip at Trojan Fieldhouse. The 16^th meeting in the series ends the regular season for the Trojans. Trevecca leads the series 12-3 after winning at OVU, 76-69, earlier this season. Trevecca has claimed the last two in the series no.

The top eight teams in standings make the Great Midwest Athletic Conference tournament. The tournament dates are March 2, 5, 6.
