CANTON, Ohio – The Trevecca Nazarene University (3-5, 0-3 Great Midwest) lost on the road at Malone University (6-2, 2-0 Great Midwest), 80-67, at Osborne Hall on Thursday.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES  

Malone leads the all-time series 8-2 with the win tonight. The teams split the season series last year.  

HOW IT HAPPENED 

Trevecca grabbed a 3-2 advantage on a three-pointer from Chris Rogers early. The game was tied 7-7 with 14:39 left in the half. The Pioneers rolled off a game-deciding run over the next seven minutes. Malone outscored Trevecca 20-2 for a 27-9 advantage with 7:40 left in the half. Trevecca cut 10 points off the Malone lead over the next five minutes with a 14-4 run. With 2:30 left, the Trojans trailed 31-23. At the half, Malone led by 11 (36-25). Trevecca continued their push to get back into the game with an 8-3 run to start the second half and were within six (39-33) with 16:53 to go. The Pioneers extended the lead to 16 (51-35) again with 12:34 remaining. The Trojans made one more run, a 9-2 run, and trailed by nine (53-44) with 10:10 to go. The Pioneers surged again and led by as many as 20, but settled for a 13-point win.   

PLAYER STATS BREAKDOWN 

CJ Penha (19), Josh Price (15), and Chris Rogers (11) all hit for double figures for the Trojans. Penha collected another double-double with 10 rebounds. Price dished out four assists and had four steals. Caleb Terry had seven rebounds.

TEAM STATS BREAKDOWN 

Trevecca struggled shooting, hitting just 36.8% (25-68) from the field and 21.2% (7-33) from deep. At the line, Trevecca hit 83.3% (10-12) from the foul line.

Trevecca won the rebounding battle 40-39 and each team turned it over 10 times.

Malone hit 11-27 from three for 40.7% and dished out 16 assists to Trevecca's 12. The Pioneers outscored the Trojans 26-12 in bench scoring.   

WHAT'S NEXT 

The Trojans head across town to Walsh University (3-2, 1-0) on Saturday at 2:00 PM. The Cavaliers have won the last four in the series and lead 7-1 overall.
