Box Score NASHVILLE – Without three of its top four scorers, the Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (1-6, 0-1 Great Midwest) fell in its Great Midwest opener, 63-48, to the University of Findlay (2-3, 1-0 Great Midwest) on Thursday in Trojan Fieldhouse.

THE SERIES
The eighth all-time meeting favored the Oilers who own a 6-2 lead in the series. The Trojans disrupted a three-game losing skid against Findlay during the 2021 spring campaign.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Injury-plagued, the Trojans faced a tough test in preseason 5th ranked Findlay. The Oilers' Sydney Kin scored the game's first basket to set the tone for the Findlay. After made layups by Bayleigh Carmichel and Keeley Carter, the game was tied at 2-2 and 4-4, but never after that. A 5-0 run by Findlay stretched out their lead to 9-4, one in which held 22-10 after the first quarter.
The Trojans 3-point stroke found some life in the second quarter as back-to-back Carmichel treys pulled Trevecca within six at 24-18. The closet the Trojans would come the rest of the way was three when Katie Tate hit from deep. Trevecca outscored Findlay 17-12 in the second quarter to trail by just seven (34-27) at the break.
The Trojans would also outscore the Oilers in the third, this time by just a point, 14-13. Carmichael collected five of her 13 points in the frame and the Trojans trailed 47-41 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Oilers protected and built upon their third quarter advantage, before Keeley Carter's 3-pointer made it a 53-44 contest before an 8-0 response sunk the Trojans. Findlay's depth and size prevailed in the fourth, as the visitors stretched their lead to as many as 15.
PLAYER PERFORMANCE
Bayleigh Carmichel connected for three three-pointers finishing with a team-best 13 points to go with seven rebounds. Leading scorer Keeley Carter added nine points and seven rebounds while Katie Tate contributed seven points off the bench.
TEAM STATS
The Trojans were just 30% (18-60) from the field where they were 6-33 (18%) from range. Despite winning the rebound battle 40-36, the Trojans committed three more turnovers and committed six more fouls.

The Trojans challenge Hillsdale College (2-4, 0-1 Great Midwest) inside Trojan Fieldhouse on Saturday at 2 p.m.
