Trevecca Women's Basketball | (RV) Lee Too Much for Trojans

NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (1-4) fell to (RV) Lee University (5-0), 78-52 in Trojan Fieldhouse on Monday evening.

THE SERIES

The 26th all-time matchup between the two squads favored the Flames. Lee owns a 15-11 lead in the series including a 6-1 advantage in the Div. II era.

HOW IT HAPPENED

A flurry of early fouls limited the Flames' offensive firepower early as the Trojans' only lead (5-4) of the contest came when Bayleigh Carmichael hit a 3-pointer at 8:36 in the opening quarter. Coming off 15-8 season in which they fell in the GSC tournament championship, the Flames quickly flexed their muscles for a 24-10 lead after the first quarter.

Though Lee's offense was limited to just three made jumpers in the second period, the Flames damage was mainly done from the free-throw line. Lee collected nine points in the second period to maintain their 14-point advantage (40-26) at halftime.

Eight of Halle Hughes' 19 points came in the third as the Trojans were doubled up 22-11 in the frame and faced a 62-37 deficit after three periods.

Alexa Smiddy came alive for seven points in the fourth quarter, but in the end, the Flames came away with the 78-52 victory.

PLAYER PERFORMANCE

Alexa Smiddy finished with a team-high 11 points of 4-of-7 shooting while Keeley Carter neared double-double territory with nine points and seven rebounds. Emma Palmer was the only othe Trojans to finish in double figures with 10 points and six rebounds.

TEAM STATS

The Trojans shot 33% (18-54) from the field, and despite winning the battle of the boards, 43-33, committed a season-high 22 turnovers. The Flames capitalized for 19 points off those turnovers and were 75% from the free-throw line (15-20) while the Trojans shot 55% (10-18) from the foul line.

UP NEXT   

The Trojans head to St. Louis to face off against the University of Missouri-St. Louis (X-X) for their final non-conference game of the season and final game in November. Trevecca and UMSL tipoff at 12:00 on Wednesday.
