Box Score NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (0-2) dropped their second game in the Jack "Pops" Duncan Classic, 67-54, to Southwest Baptist University in Trojan Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.

THE SERIES
The Bearcats win the first-ever meeting between the two schools in women's basketball.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a 4-2 start for Southwest Baptist, Trevecca scored six straight on back-to-back three-pointers from Alexa Smiddy and Bayleigh Carmichel for an 8-4 Trojan lead at 7:20 on the first-quarter clock. With 5:44 left in the quarter, Trevecca led 11-7 after Faith Wilken drained a three-pointer. An 8-0 run by the Bearcats put the visitors back in front 15-11 with 1:31 to go in the quarter, which is how the scoreboard revealed through the first ten minutes.
Back-to-back Trojan baskets to start the second quarter from Bayleigh Carmichel, and Alex McFarlin tied the game at 15-15. Bailey Carmichel hit a three with 7:11 to go in the half to make it 19-18 Bearcats. SBU scored seven straight for a 26-18 edge with 3:30 left in the half. A 6-0 Trojan run put the Trojans back within two at 26-24 with 1:34 left. The game remained tight till the second quarter ended, with SBU up 29-27.
The game remained close through the third quarter, with both teams holding a slight advantage. With 1:27 left in the quarter, Trevecca led 44-41 following a three-pointer from Faith Wilken. However, the Bearcats regained the lead at the end of the quarter 45-44.
Alexa Smiddy scored the first basket of the final quarter, giving the Trojans the lead again, 46-45. With 7:31 left, the Trojans and Bearcats were tied 50-50. However, the Bearcats pulled away from the Trojans with a 10-2 run, taking a 60-52 edge and never let the Trojans within six the rest of the way.
THE PLAYER
Four Trojans reached double figures. Faith Wilken and Alexa Smiddy each scored 14 to lead the Trojans. Emma Palmer (11) and Bayleigh Carmichel (10) were the other two. Wilken and Carmichel led the team in rebounding with eight each. Smiddy added four assists.
THE TEAM
Trevecca shot 39.3% (22-56) from the field, and SBU hit 40.4% (23-57). The most significant difference offensively came at the free-throw line, where SBU drew 25 chances at the line and hit 16. Conversely, Trevecca only had six free throw attempts, hitting four.
Trevecca outrebounded SBU 44-31, but turned the ball over 21 times to just five for the Bearcats.

Trevecca heads South to Huntsville Thursday to face the University of Alabama Huntsville at 5:30 PM.
The game at Trojan Fieldhouse is a week from today when the University of Alabama Montgomery visits for a 2:00 PM tip.
Lee University follows for a visit at 5:30 PM on Monday, November 22.

2021 Pops Duncan Recap
The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team hosted the 16th Annual Pops Duncan Classic at Trevecca, Nov. 12-13, 2021 in Trojan Fieldhouse.
The tournament is now considered a part of the G-MAC/GLVC Conference Challenge.
This basketball classic is named for Jack "Pops" Duncan, a longtime supporter of Trevecca athletics. Pops passed away on October 7, 2017. Pops' smile and encouragement will be missed, but we are all blessed to have known him for so many years.
His story is one that warms the hearts of many Trevecca athletes, staff, and fans. In the spring of 2016, Pops was inducted into the Trevecca Athletic Hall of Fame.
Through the 2021 Pops Duncan, the Trojans are 16-14 all-time in the PDC. Trevecca won nine of their first 10 games in the Pops Duncan Classic and 12 of their first 16 games. The Trojans are 3-7 over their last 10 games in the tournament.
All Pops Duncan Classic games are played at the Trojan Fieldhouse on the Trevecca campus in Nashville, Tenn. The gym is located inside the Mark R. Moore Physical Education Center.
