Trevecca Women's Basketball | Trojans Fall to Hillsdale; Host Findlay Saturday

NASHVILLE - The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (0-2, 0-2 Great Midwest) scored the first basket of the night, but Hillsdale College (2-8, 2-8 Great Midwest) scored six straight to take the lead for good in an 84-68 Charger win at the Trojan Fieldhouse on Thursday.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES

Tonight is the seventh all-time meeting and Hillsdale is one game up now, 4-3, in the all-time series.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trevecca closed the gap to one and two several times but were not able to regain the lead. Hillsdale took a 20-11 lead with 1:23 left in the first quarter, but Trevecca scored seven straight to pull within two at 20-18 (9:35 / 2nd quarter). Alex McFarlin scored the first five in the run. Trevecca closed the gap to two (34-32) at the half. With 7:02 left in the third, the Trojans were within one (42-41). The game remained close for most of the rest of the quarter, but with the Chargers leading by two (54-52), the visitors began to gain separation. They closed the third quarter on a 7-2 run and lead 61-54 going to the fourth. From there the Chargers eased away for an 84-68 win. 

PLAYER STATS REPORT

Faith Wilken led Trevecca with 17 points, three steals, an assist, and five rebounds. Alex McFarlin added 14 with two three-pointers, Keeley Carter scored 12 with five rebounds. Sydney Mills scored 23 and Grace Touchette added 21.

TEAM STATS BREAKDOWN

As a team, Trevecca shot 37.9% (25-66), but only 20% (5-25) from three-point range. Hillsdale hit their first 10 free throws and ended up hitting 15-17 from the line. They shot 43% from three, hitting 13-30 from deep. From the field, they hit 48% (28-58). The rebounding edge went to Hillsdale 41-31.

WHAT'S NEXT   

Saturday the Trojans welcomes the University of Findlay (5-5, 5-5 Great Midwest) at 1:30 PM at Trojan Fieldhouse. No spectators are allowed until further notice at Trojan Fieldhouse.

The Trojans hit the road next week. First, they are just up the road in Owensboro, Ky. where they'll take on the Panthers of Kentucky Wesleyan College (7-3, 7-3 Great Midwest) at 5:30 PM on Monday, January 25. The next three games are also on the road. The Trojans close out January playing at Walsh University (5-3, 5-3 Great Midwest) on the 28th at 4:30 PM, Malone University (4-7, 4-7 Great Midwest) on the 30th at Noon, and at Hillsdale College (2-8, 2-8 Great Midwest) on the 31st at 1 PM.
