Trevecca Women's Basketball | Findlay Holds Off Trojans Fourth Quarter Surge, 65-61

NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (7-16, 4-10 Great Midwest) lost 65-61 to the University of Findlay (12-11, 8-5 Great Midwest) in Trojan Fieldhouse on Saturday.   

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES

With the win, the Oilers maintain control of the all-time series and now lead 5-1. This was the only regular-season game between TNU and UF.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The majority of the game saw the University of Findlay in front, though the Trojans led 36 seconds into the game when Annaliese Burnett's made free throw gave the Trojans a 1-0 lead. Findlay's 3-pointer from Bridgett Landin gave the Oilers the advantage at 9:11 in the first quarter and not until Olivia Stephens connected for a 3-pointer and finished a four-point play was the game tied again at 61-61 with 53 seconds remaining. The Oilers scored 19 points in both first-half quarters to take a 38-27 halftime lead. After both teams managed 14 points in the third, the Trojans' defensive effort in the fourth made it interesting. Possession by possession the Trojans inched closer. The Oilers led 61-57 with 2:04 to play. Both teams went on 4-0 runs, the Trojans tying it at 61-61 before Amber Schweiger's four made foul shots gave Findlay the 65-61 win.  

PLAYER STATS REPORT

Kaitlyn Wilks scored a team-high 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting in 19 minutes. Both Olivia Stephens and Samantha Whiteman scored 11 points. Stephens neared a double-double with nine rebounds while Whiteman finished with five rebounds and six assists. 

TEAM STATS BREAKDOWN

Trevecca shot 40.0% (22-55) from the field and 27.3% (6-22) from three-point range. The Trojans won the rebounding battle 38-35 as the Trojans had the edge in assists 15-12.

WHAT'S NEXT   

The Trojans travel to West Virginia next week for games against Alderson Broaddus (6-16, 3-10 Great Midwest) on February 13 at 4:15 PM and on February 15 against Ohio Valley (3-17, 1-13 Great Midwest at 12:00 PM.

The game will be the 13th meeting between Trevecca and ABU as the Trojans own an 11-1 advantage all-time. Trevecca has had similar success against OVU, leading 10-1 all-time.
