Box Score NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball team (2-21, 2-12 Great Midwest) fell in overtime, 84-77, to the University of Findlay (16-6, 11-2 Great Midwest) in Trojan Fieldhouse on Saturday.
SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
With the win, the Oilers improve to 7-0 over the Trojans having not dropped a game to Trevecca since joining the Great Midwest in 2017. The Oilers also defeated the Trojans 80-47 on January 16th.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the game's opening five minutes the penetrating Trojans offense took an eight-point lead when Austin Wills' layup made it 13-8. For much of the half, the Trojans held a two-possession lead until the Oilers made it a one-point game (26-25) after an 8-0 run. The Trojans responded with an Adam Webb dunk, but Findlay pieced together a 6-0 run to then take a 31-28 lead with just over two minutes to play. The team's traded 3-pointers then a steal and layup to end the half gave the Oilers a 36-31 halftime advantage. In the second half, the Trojans faced as much as a 13-point hole (51-38) with 13 minutes to play. Five minutes later, however, on an extended Trojans run the game was tied at 58-58. The Trojans jumped ahead down the stretch 64-58, but Findlay was able to level things at 66-66 with 1:12 left. The Oilers' Anthony Masterlasco forced overtime with his layup under 30 seconds. Findlay opened the extra period on an 8-1 run, putting the game out of reach.
PLAYER STATS REPORT
Austin Wills collected a team-high 25 points on 7-of-12 shooting from 3-point range. Adam Webb contributed a double-double 17 points and 11 rebounds recording all of the Trojans' six team blocks. Chris Rogers flirted with a triple-double producing nine points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists.
TEAM STATS BREAKDOWN
The Trojans shot 46.2% (30-65) from the field and 42.3% (11-26) from three-point range. Findlay shot 48.3% (29-60) from the field and made 7-of-19 (36.8%) three-point attempts. The Trojans outrebounded the Oilers 40-32. The Trojans narrowly edged the Oilers 15-14 in assists, while UF produced more steals 11-1, blocks went to TNU 6-0.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Trojans travel to West Virginia next week for games against Alderson Broaddus (7-15, 5-8 Great Midwest) on February 13 at 6:30 PM and on February 15 against Ohio Valley (4-19, 1-12 Great Midwest at 2:00 PM.
The game will be the 14th meeting between Trevecca and ABU as the Battlers own an 11-2 advantage over the Trojans all-time. Trevecca has had success against OVU, leading 9-3 all-time.
