Box Score PEPPER PIKE, Ohio – The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (7-14, 4-8 Great Midwest) lost 79-71 to Ursuline College (6-14, 3-8 Great Midwest) in Seidman Gym on Saturday.
SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
The Arrows pull within a game of the Trojans all-time with the win in the only meeting this season. The series still favors Trevecca 8-7.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Trojans took the early 19-16 lead after the first quarter behind six points apiece from guards Bayleigh Carmichel (2-2 3PT) and Samantha Whiteman (2-2 FG, 2-2 FT). The Arrows outscored the Trojans 25-16 in the second frame to turn a three-point deficit into a six-point halftime lead for Ursuline. The Trojans pulled within two points (41-39) in the third quarter but fell back into an eight-point hole (58-50) entering the fourth. Three made 3-pointers in the fourth pulled the Trojans back into contention. Carmichel's three made it a 66-63 game with just over five minutes to play. From there, the Trojans had offensive chances to tie or take the lead trailing 68-66 but fell just short in the closing minutes.
PLAYER STATS REPORT
Bayleigh Carmichel tallied a team-high 24 points on 6-of-11 shooting from 3-point range to go with seven rebounds and a pair of steals and assists. Kaitlyn Wilks produced 16 points working on the block with one 3-pointer and four rebounds. Samantha Whiteman also reached double figures with 13 points and five assists.
TEAM STATS BREAKDOWN
Trevecca shot 44.1% (26-59) from the field and 40.0% (10-25) from three-point range. The Trojans grabbed 33 rebounds to the Arrows' 28. Trevecca held the edge at the free-throw line (TNU= 9-12 – 75%) (UC= 16-25 – 64.0%). Both teams had 14, though Trevecca created more steals 13-9.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Trojans return to Nashville for another pair of home games as they host Hillsdale College (5-16, 2-10 Great Midwest) and the University of Findlay (11-10, 7-4 Great Midwest).
The Trojans look for the season sweep over the Chargers when they visit Trojan Fieldhouse at 5:30 PM on Thursday. TNU won 65-54 over HC on January 18 and hold a 3-2 lead all-time.
The Trojans and Oilers meet for the only regular-season contest of the season at 2:00 PM on Saturday. Findlay controls a 4-1 lead in the all-time series.
