Trevecca Women's Basketball | Walsh Remains Unbeaten in G-MAC Play with Win over Trevecca

NORTH CANTON, Ohio – The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (3-12, 0-6 Great Midwest) lost, 97-59, to Walsh University (12-2, 5-0 Great Midwest) in Alumni Arena on Saturday.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES

With the win, the Cavaliers pushed their advantage to 4-2 in the six all-time meetings which include victories in the last three games.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trevecca quickly captured a four-point lead as Olivia Pepperman (JR/Maryville, TN) set the early tone for the Trojans offense. The home team responded with a 6-0 run with four points from returning first-team all G-MAC forward, Quionche Carter. The Cavs closed out the opening frame on an 8-0 run to take 30-17 lead into the second. The Trojans were outscored by 16 points in the second quarter which included an over five-minute scoring drought. In the final five minutes of the half, the Cavs buried five 3-pointers to transform an 11-point lead into a 29-point advantage at the break. Walsh relied on strong 3-point shooting (4-4) in the third quarter to lead 81-44 going into the fourth. Though the Cavs extended the margin to 43 points in the fourth quarter, the Trojans were only outscored by one (16-15) in the frame, falling 97-59.

PLAYER STATS REPORT

Bayleigh Carmichel (FR/Jonesborough, TN) (18), Olivia Pepperman (13), and Samantha Whiteman (FR/Covington, OH) (10) were the three Trojans in double figures. Four different Trojans collected a team-high four rebounds (Carmichel, Pepperman, Sophie Henry (FR/Gatlinburg, TN), and Olivia Delk (FR/Gallatin, TN)).

TEAM STATS BREAKDOWN

Trevecca shot 35.5% (22-62) from the field and 42.1% (8-19) from three-point range. The rebounding battle was close, but Walsh edged Trevecca 35-32. The Cavs maintained an efficient offense hitting 57.6% (34-59) from the field, 60.9% (14-23) from three-point range, and 78.9% (15-19) from the foul line.

WHAT'S NEXT    

Trevecca returns to Nashville for a two-game conference homestand with games against Alderson Broaddus (6-7, 3-3 Great Midwest) on Thursday, January 9 at 5:30 PM and a meeting with Ohio Valley (2-7, 1-5 Great Midwest) on Saturday, January 11 at 2:00 PM.

In the 13th contest against ABU the Trojans look to extend an 11-1 lead in the all-time series, and a 10-1 lead in the series against OVU.
