Box Score NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (5-12, 2-6 Great Midwest) continued its Great Midwest success with a 71-44 win over Ohio Valley University (2-9, 1-7 Great Midwest) in Trojan Fieldhouse on Saturday.
SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
With the win, the Trojans pushed their advantage to 11-1 after 12 all-time meetings, which now includes nine straight wins in the series over the Fighting Scots in the NCAA Division II era.
Abbi Buck knocked down a career-most five 3-pointers to finish the day with a career-high 15 points. Buck reached double figures for the second time this season and second time in her career.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Kaitlyn Wilks opened up the game with the Trojans' first four points and the Trojans took a 7-2 lead when Olivia Pepperman hit a 3-pointer. A pair of made free-throws gave OVU an 11-10 lead to close the first quarter, their only lead of the game. Samantha Whiteman hit a jumper 15 seconds into the second erase the deficit and give the Trojans the lead for good. Trevecca outscored Ohio Valley 29-8 in the frame to take a 39-19 advantage at the break. The Trojans relied on the interior offense in the third quarter when they took a 54-33 lead into the fourth. Led by Abbi Bucks' three made 3-pointers, the Trojans scored 17 points in the fourth quarter to close off the Fighting Scots, 71-44.
PLAYER STATS REPORT
Abbi Buck collected a career-high 15 points off 5-of-12 shooting from 3-point range. Buck was matched in double figures by Olivia Pepperman who had 13 points, six assists, and five rebounds. Samantha Whiteman finished with 12 points, while Kaitlyn Wilks collected 10 points. Bayleigh Carmichel led the Trojans with seven rebounds to go with seven points.
TEAM STATS BREAKDOWN
Trevecca shot 43.5% (27-62) from the field and 35.1% (13-37) from three-point range. The rebounding battle was close, but Ohio Valley edged Trevecca 38-35. Both teams shot 44.4% from the free-throw line, TNU (4-9) and OVU (8-18). The Fighting Scots hit 17-45 (37.8%) from the field and 2-14 (14.3%) from 3-point range.
WHAT'S NEXT
Trevecca has just one game next week when they travel to Hillsdale College (5-11, 2-5 Great Midwest) for a 12 PM tip-off on Saturday.
The Trojans and Chargers have split the four all-time meetings, 2-2.
