NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball team (2-16, 2-11 G-MAC) defeated Tiffin University (7-16, 3-12 G-MAC), 83-74, in Trojan Fieldhouse on Thursday night.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES

Trevecca and Tiffin met for the second time this season which is also the second time in history. Tiffin defeated Trevecca 100-91 on December 8. The all-time series is tied at 1-1.

Trevecca set the program record for 3-point baskets made tonight converting 17 3-point shots on 27 attempts.  

HOW IT HAPPENED

Tiffin opened the game with a 3-pointer and led 6-2 in the game's opening minute and a half … Trevecca took its first lead of the game at 16:57 when Jaylon Tharpe (SO/Clarksville, TN) connected for a 3-pointer to put the Trojans up 10-8 … TNU held the lead for the rest of the half … the Trojans held a 10-point first half lead (28-18) when Reed Smith (SO/Brentwood, TN) hit a layup at the 9:29 mark … Tiffin cut into the lead by going on a 10-4 run to cut it to 32-28 with 4:08 left in the half … Nathan Harper (SO/Lexington, KY) hit a 3-pointer with under a minute to play to give the Trojans a 40-32 halftime advantage … in the second half the Trojans reclaimed their 10-point lead when Austin Wills (SO/Benton, IL) made one of his seven 3-pointer's to give TNU a 48-38 lead … after Jaylon Tharpe's 3-pointer at 15:44, Tiffin went on a 10-0 run to tie the game at 53-53 with 14:14 to play … Trevecca built its lead back up to six  (63-57) before Tiffin used a 7-0 run to lead to take a 64-63 lead … the one point lead with nine minutes to play was the last the Dragons would have … TNU outscored TU 20-10 in the final seven minutes to win 83-74.

TEAM STATS BREAKDOWN

The Trojans shot 58.3% from the field, 63.0% from 3-point range and 62.5% from the foul line … the Dragons shot 43.9% from the field and 25.0% from 3-point range while going 47.1% from the foul line …  TU outrebounded TNU 40-27 and had more steals, 11-10 … TNU led in assists 18-17 …  the Dragons also led in blocks, 3-0.

PLAYER STATS REPORT

Austin Wills and Reed Smith both scored a team-high 21 points … Smith added six rebounds and three assists while Wills made 7-of-9 from 3-point range … Nathan Harper contributed 18 points (6-of-10 3PT) … Jaylon Tharpe also finished in double figures scoring 11 points off the bench.

The Trojans conclude their five-game homestand Saturday when they host Cedarville University (13-10, 10-5 G-MAC) at 4:15 PM in Trojan Fieldhouse.
