CANTON, OH – The Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball team (2-19, 2-14 G-MAC) lost to Malone University (14-11, 9-9 G-MAC), 81-54, in Osborne Hall on Saturday afternoon.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES

Trevecca and Malone met for the second time this season and the sixth time ever. Malone defeated Trevecca 80-53 on December 13 in Trojan Fieldhouse. The Pioneers lead the all-time series 5-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Malone opened the game with a made 3-pointer before Trevecca countered with a 5-0 run to take its only lead of the game … Nathan Harper (SO/Lexington, KY) connected for two then CJ Herbert (SO/Mt. Juliet, TN) hit his first of three made 3-pointers (5-3) … Malone created separation on a 16-0 run which spanned six minutes to take a 26-9 lead … that 17-point lead was the largest for the Pioneers in the first half … TNU cut it back to an eight-point deficit (32-24) when Reed Smith (SO/Brentwood, TN) and Austin Wills (SO/Benton, IL) combined for eight points in the final five minutes of the half … Malone led 37-24 after hitting a 3-pointer as time expired before the break … the Pioneers built upon their 13-point first half lead in the second … Trevecca made seven of its 10 3-pointers in the second half … Malone made 15 field goals in both the first and second half … the Trojans pulled to within 12 (47-35) in the second half with 15:12 to play but that was as close as they would come … Malone won 81-54.

TEAM STATS BREAKDOWN

The Trojans shot 40.8% from the field, 43.5% from 3-point range and 80.0% from the foul line … the Pioneers shot 54.5% from the field and 44.0% from 3-point range while also going 58.8% from the foul line … MU outrebounded TNU 35-26 and had more assists, 21-11 … both teams had two blocks and two steals.

Reed Smith scored a team-high 11 points (4-6 FG) to go with three assists and two rebounds … Imani Starling (SO/Nashville, TN), CJ Herbert, and Austin Wills all contributed nine points each … Jaylon Tharpe (SO/Clarksville, TN) and Nathan Harper both had eight points …

WHAT'S NEXT  

The Trojans return home to play their final two home games of the season next week in Trojan Fieldhouse. On Thursday, Alderson Broaddus (10-13, 6-9) visits while on Saturday Davis & Elkins (6-18, 3-13) will be in Nashville. The Battlers own an 11-1 series advantage over the Trojans while the series with Davis & Elkins is level at 6-6.
