Box Score

NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball team (1-8, 1-1 Great Midwest) lost a Great Midwest Athletic Conference game 70-54 to Ohio Dominican University (4-6, 1-1 Great Midwest) in Trojan Fieldhouse on Saturday.

SERIES/HISTORY:

Ohio Dominican was victorious for the fourth time in five games. The Panthers won the only contest played last season, 78-47. The two teams will take the floor one more time to conclude the regular season on Feb. 20.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Trojans jumped out of the gate on a 4-0 run led by Austin Wills (JR/Benton, IL)' 3-pointer and a made free-throw from Adam Webb (JR/Lakeland, FL). After a made basket from ODU, the Trojans again applied pressure with a Jaylon Tharpe (JR/Clarksville, TN) made 3-pointer to make it 7-2. It took the Panthers most of the opening half to make it a single possession ballgame when they first forced a 28-28 tie with just 1:36 to play. The game was tied at 30-30 at the break. ODU set the tone for the second by hitting a 3-pointer to open the scoring just 16 seconds into the game. Trailing 45-36 neither team scored for a four-minute stretch between the under 16 and under 12 media timeouts until a layup from Jaylon Tharpe. The Trojans pulled to within 11 on a few occasions, but that was the closest the second half would come as the Panthers pulled away for a 70-54 victory.

TEAM STATS BREAKDOWN

The Trojans shot 37.7% (20-53) from the field, 80% (8-10) from the foul line and were 24% (6-25) shooters from 3-point range.

The Panthers outrebounded the Trojans 45-32 while the Trevecca bench outscored the Panthers 26-15. Both teams had nine assists and five steals, but the Trojans produced more blocks, 7-3.

PLAYER STATS REPORT

Justin Headrick (FR/Crossville, TN) was the lone Trojan to reach double figures and also record a double-double. Headrick's night included 12 points and 10 rebounds on 4-of-6 shooting. Big men Adam Webb and Reed Smith (SR/Brentwood, TN) both added eight points, combining for seven rebounds. Jaylon Tharpe helped with seven points and six rebounds.

WHAT'S NEXT

A quick turnaround sees the Trojans back on the hardwood tomorrow afternoon against long-time rival Lipscomb University (3-6, 0-0 ASUN) at 4 PM.

Trevecca trails the all-time series with the Bison 45-16 with the last meeting coming during the 2010 season when the two squads played an exhibition. The last official contest was during the 2000 campaign.
