Trevecca Women's Basketball | Cedarville Closes Out Trojans in Final Home Game of 2019

NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (3-9, 0-3 Great Midwest) fell 64-43, to Great Midwest rivals, Cedarville University (9-2, 3-1 Great Midwest) in Trojan Fieldhouse on Monday.

 

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES

With the 15th contest between the two schools favoring Cedarville, the Yellow Jackets hold a 12-3 all-time lead in the series.

 

Trevecca travels to Cedarville on January 30 to conclude the season series.

  

HOW IT HAPPENED

Cedarville's opening 3-pointer set the tone for the Yellow Jackets who never trailed in the contest. The Jackets took a 5-0 lead before Olivia Delk (FR/Gallatin, TN) nailed a 3-pointer to put the Trojans on the board. CU was leading 9-3 when a Kaitlyn Wilks jumper pulled the Trojans to within four, the closet they would come in the quarter. The Jackets led 25-12 after the first quarter. The first two points belonged to Cedarville to begin the second quarter as they outscored Trevecca 10-4 in the frame to manage a 35-16 advantage at the half. An Izzy Franco (SO/Brentwood, TN) 3-pointer got the scoring going in the third quarter. Neither team scored for close to two minutes from the 8:03 mark to the 6:20 mark of the third before Cedarville's Ashlyn Huffman gave the Jackets a 41-21 lead. Cedarville took a 48-27 into the fourth quarter. Both squads scored 16 points in the final quarter. The Jackets improved to 3-1 in the Great Midwest with a 64-43 win.

 

TEAM STATS BREAKDOWN

Trevecca shot 30.5% (18-59) from the field and was 2-16 (12.5%) from 3-point range. The Trojans finished 50.0% (5-10) from the free-throw line. The Jackets just edged the Trojans on the boards, 40-37. Both teams received 28 points from the bench, the Jackets finished with one more steal, 9-8 and more assists, 14-5.

 

PLAYER STATS REPORT

Samantha Whiteman (FR/Covington, OH) led the Trojans with 14 points, three rebounds, and two assists. Olivia Travis (SO/Minneapolis, MN) offered six points and a rebound, while Kaitlyn Wilks helped with five points and eight rebounds.

 

WHAT'S NEXT    

One more game stand between the Trojans and Christmas. Trevecca takes on Kentucky Wesleyan (10-0, 3-0 Great Midwest) on Wednesday at 5:30 PM in Owensboro.

 

The Panthers have won the last seven games and hold an 11-5 advantage in the all-time series. Trevecca hosts Kentucky Wesleyan on February 22 to conclude the season series.
