Trevecca Women's Basketball | Trojans Just Miss Tipping Chargers

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (3-2) fell 66-65 on the road to the University of Alabama-Huntsville (2-3) in Spragins Hall on Thursday.

  

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES

The ninth game in the series favored the Chargers. Trevecca leads the series 6-3 all-time, including two of the last three.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trevecca's only lead of the game came when Olivia Pepperman scored the opening basket. With 1:46 left in the first quarter the Chargers lead was seven, 15-8, but two Abbi Buck 3-pointers cut the deficit to just four, 18-14 at the quarter break. UAH built upon their lead in the second quarter, but the Trojans fought back to trail 31-28 at halftime. Pepperman's basket to open the third quarter cut the deficit to just one, the closet the Trojans would get. A Selena Pruitt 3-pointer for UAH gave the Chargers a nine-point lead with 5:54 to play in the third. UAH led 55-46 after three quarters. UAH saw their lead grow to as many as 10 in the fourth, but in the closing minutes the Trojans extended the game. Trailing 64-58 with 1:32 to play, the Trojans cut it to 64-61 with three made free-throws. After two made Charger free-throws Abbi Buck made it a 66-64 game with 11 seconds to play. After the Trojans forced a turnover and a foul, Samantha Whiteman connected on just one of two free throws with 4 seconds to play. Bayleigh Carmichel missed the game winning 3-pointer as time expired.

 

TEAM STATS BREAKDOWN

Trevecca shot 42.4% (25-59) from the field and outrebounded the Chargers 44-43 … Trevecca's bench created more offense than Chargers 22-9.

   

PLAYER STATS REPORT

Olivia Pepperman followed up her 31-point outing by dropping 25 points on 12-of-17 shooting, while grabbing a team-high seven rebounds. Abbi Buck added 12 points off the bench (4-of-6 from 3-point range). Bayleigh Carmichel had nine points, five rebounds and four assists.

 

WHAT'S NEXT    

The Trojans visit Auburn Montgomery (11.27 / Noon) before playing two at the Bellarmine Thanksgiving Classic. On the 29th, the Trojans play the host Knights at 2 PM and on the 30th, the University of Southern Indiana at 2 PM.

 

In the NCAA D2 Era, this is the first meeting with AUM while Bellarmine leads the series 3-0 and Southern Indiana owns the win in the only meeting.

 

When Trevecca returns to the Trojan Fieldhouse next, it will be to open Great Midwest play with Tiffin University on December 5th (5:30 PM) and Ohio Dominican University on December 7th (2 PM).
