OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball team (1-10, 1-5 G-MAC) lost to Kentucky Wesleyan College (6-6, 4-2 G-MAC), 69-48, in the Owensboro Sports Center.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES

Kentucky Wesleyan owns an 11-2 advantage in the all-time series. The Panthers have claimed the last seven meetings in the series. The Trojans are 0-5 vs. the Panthers in Owensboro with their last win in the series coming in a 73-72 win January 25, 2016, over them #18 KWC.  

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers led 26-19 at the break, but the Trojans made it interesting throughout … Evan Ragsdale and Nathan Harper connected on three-pointers for a 6-4 lead early … after KWC established a 10-point (16-6) lead the Trojans cut the lead to two (21-19) at the 3:07 mark with a 13-5 run fueled by seven points from Elijah MollenhauerAustin Wills hit a three-point basket with 15:36 remaining in the game to put the Trojans to within three (30-27) … it was a close as the Trojans would get the rest of the way … the Panthers slowly built on the lead

 

TEAM STATS BREAKDOWN

Trevecca shot 35.6% (19-52) from the field while holding KWC to 41.7% (25-60) … both teams connected on double-digit three-pointers with KWC hitting 11 (of 27 / 40.7%) and Trevecca 10 (of 29 / 34.5%) … the rebounding edge went the way of the Panthers 41-26 but points in the paint went to the Trojans 36-26.

 

PLAYER STATS REPORT

Austin Wills led the Trojans with 13 points hitting three of seven from three-point range … Nathan Harper added nine and Elijah Mollenhauer seven … Imani Starling dished out six assists and grabbed five boards while Reed Smith and Jaylon Tharpe collected six boards a piece.

 

WHAT'S NEXT    

Trevecca continues their four-game road streak a week from Saturday when they visit Davis & Elkins College (2-9, 0-5 G-MAC) on Saturday, January 12th in Elkins, W.Va. TNU is 6-5 all-time versus D&E, but the Trojans are on a two-game win streak in the series.

 

The last two in the four-game road series come January 17th and 19th at Ohio Valley University (5-5, 1-4 G-MAC / Vienna, W.Va.) and Ohio Dominican University (8-4, 4-1 G-MAC / Columbus, Ohio) respectively. TNU is 10-1 vs. OVU and 1-2 versus ODU all-time. TNU is on a five-game win streak in the series with OVU. The ODU Panthers have claimed the last two meetings.

 

The Trojans are rewarded with a five-game home stand beginning on January 24th when the University of Findlay visits the Trojan Fieldhouse.
