NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball team (1-15, 1-10 G-MAC) lost to Hillsdale College (14-5, 10-2 G-MAC), 79-56, in Trojan Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES

Trevecca and Hillsdale met for the third time since the Chargers joined the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. The Chargers lead the all-time series 3-0.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Reed Smith (SO/Brentwood, TN) got the Trojans on the board first with a made 3-pointer … Hillsdale responded by scoring the game's next 13 points to lead by 10 … with 10:00 remaining in the half the Trojans cut the deficit to seven, 18-11 … after the Chargers opened their lead back up to 13 points (28-15) with 4:46 to play, the Trojans shot their way back into the game … TNU used a 7-0 run from there to make it a 28-22 game … that's the closest it would be in the first half as Hillsdale led 34-22 at the break … Hillsdale added to their halftime lead in the opening five minutes of the second half leading by as many as 15 (41-26) at 17:08 … Trevecca made it an eight point deficit (43-45) when Jaylon Tharpe (SO/Clarksville, TN) made a basket and a free-throw with 13:10 to play in the game … seven minutes later it a seven point game again (56-49) … the Trojans would not get any closer than seven, falling 79-56.

 

TEAM STATS BREAKDOWN

The Chargers shot 48.9% from the field, 33.3% from 3-point range and 71.1% from the foul line … the Trojans shot 47.8% from the field and 30.8% from 3-point range while going 72.7% from the foul line …  HC outrebounded TNU 33-23 and created more assists 13-10 … the Chargers also led in blocks, 3-2 and steals, 6-1.

 

PLAYER STATS REPORT

Austin Wills (SO/Benton, IL) finished with 14 points on 6-of-20 shooting from the field … Reed Smith added 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists … Nathan Harper (SO/Lexington, KY) contributed 10 points and four rebounds … Jaylon Tharpe helped out with 12 points off the bench.

The Trojans continue their five-game homestand next Saturday when they host Lake Erie College (11-7, 6-4 G-MAC) at 4:15 PM in Trojan Fieldhouse.
