Men's Basketball | Trevecca Drops First G-MAC Game to Malone; Host AUM Saturday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball team began a four-game home stand with their first home Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) contest on Thursday against Malone University at the Trojan Fieldhouse. The Pioneer won the first-ever meeting with the Trojans 70-49.

GAME CHRONICLE

Trevecca started the game on a 7-3 run

Devin Whitfield (FR/Lipscomb, AL) put Trevecca on top 14-13 with 13 minutes to go in the first half

A 9-0 Malone run turned into a 14-1 run that saw the Trojans go without a field goal over eight minutes, giving Malone a game-deciding 27-15 edge with less than four minutes remaining the half

The Pioneers led 33-22 at the break

Treveca cut the Malone lead to 10 on three occasions in the second half, but could get no closer

This is Malone's first-ever G-MAC victory, starting a five game road swing

PLAYER STATS REPORT

Donovan Donaldson (SO/Nashville, TN) led the Trojans with 15 points (4-of-8 from three-point range) and added four rebounds 

Sebastian Petty (JR/Horn Lake, MS) had 10 points coming off of the bench adding five rebounds, a block and a steal

 

WHAT'S NEXT 

Trevecca hosts new NCAA Division II member Auburn University at Montgomery on Saturday, January 14th at 4 PM. The Warhawks are 4-14 in their provisional year one -of transition from the NAIA to NCAA Division II status. They are playing an independent schedule before becoming a provisional member in the Gulf South Conference in the 2017-2018 season. Trevecca is 0-4 all-time versus the Warhawks, having last played in 2006.

 

The Trojans jump back into G-MAC play on Thursday, January 19th at 8 PM when they host Alderson Broaddus University (5-9, 2-0 G-MAC) and Saturday Jan. 21st when they host Davis & Elkins College (7-9, 2-0 G-MAC) at 4 PM. Trevecca picked up its first-ever win over ABU in their last meeting, which came in the G-MAC Tournament last spring. Trevecca is 1-7 all-time versus the Battlers. TNU is 4-2 versus the Senators and are on a four-game win streak in the series.
