Women's Basketball | Trevecca Wins 2nd in a Row; @ Belmont Friday at 11 AM

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (3-4) won a non-conference home game versus Fisk University (1-8), 65-58, on Thursday night at the Trojan Fieldhouse.

 

Trevecca is 4-0 in the series with Fisk since 2009. Tonight is the first meeting with Fisk since the 2010 season.

 

Trevecca visits Belmont on Friday in a 11 AM game at the Curb Events Center in Nashville. The Bruins are members of the NCAA Division I ranks and the game will count for the Bruins, but is an exhibition for the Trojans.

 

The first quarter ended tonight with Fisk leading 12-10. That score stood over the final 2:24 of the quarter as both teams went scoreless for the remainder of the quarter following a three-pointer from TNU's Adi Hale (SO/Lexington, TN). Fisk led by as many as five (12-7) in the first quarter.

 

The Trojans caught the Bulldogs at 14 all following a Sarah Raby (SR/Lynchburg, TN) layup with 8:55 left in the second quarter. The Trojans went on to build a four-point (18-14) lead that capped a 11-2 run. Trevecca continued to put the pressure on the visitors and pulled ahead by 10 (26-16) with 5:16 left in the half. The 19-4 run by the home team turned the game in their favor. The Trojans led by nine (32-23) at the break. Trevecca outscored Fisk 22-11 in the second.

 

In the third the Trojans pushed the lead out even further, reaching a 20-point (53-33) advantage just before the quarter ended. Trevecca led by 17, 53-36 heading to the fourth quarter. In the third quarter alone the Trojans outpaced the Bulldogs 21-13.

 

The Bulldogs closed the gap in the fourth quarter, but the Trojans never let the visitors inside of seven and closed out their second consecutive win 65-58. The Bulldogs outscored the Trojans 22-12 in the fourth.

 

Adi Hale scored 18 for the Trojans and Sarah Raby scored 16. Raby added a team-high nine rebounds and chipped in three assists. Megan Kilburn (SR/Summertown, TN) scored seven and grabbed seven rebounds. Kiersten Hunter (FR/Lilburn, GA) scored nine, collected three rebounds, and took away four steals.

 

LaShae Brown led the Bulldogs with 40 points.

 

Trevecca shot 40% (21-52) from the field, 33% (7-21) from three-point range, and 73% (16-22) from the foul line. Trevecca outrebounded Fisk 40-30. Each team scored 11 second chance points. Trevecca's bench topped Fisk 20-6.
