Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball team (1-2) dropped a non-conference battle at Christian Brothers University (2-1) 74-65 at Canale Arena.
Trevecca returns home for their first home regular season game on Saturday when they host the University of Findlay at 4 PM, the Oilers are on their way to membership in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference next season. Trevecca visits Findlay on December 29th. UF is currently 1-1 on the season.
Trevecca is 1-4 versus Christian Brothers in the NCAA Division II era and have lost three in a row in the series. The Trojans will look to break that string when the Bucs visit Trevecca on December 3rd.
CBU led 35-29 at the half and outscored TNU 39-36 in the second half.
Devin Whitfield (FR/Lipscomb, AL) opened the game with a three-pointer to put the Trojans up. By the time the first half clock hit the 13:11 mark the Trojan lead was 11 (17-6) after Jacob Williams (JR/Lebanon, TN) drained a three-pointer. A 12-2 CBU run closed the Trojan lead to one (19-18) with 9:34 left in the half. After CBU took a one point lead (24-23) Trevecca regained the lead briefly at 25-24 with 4:24 left in the half, but a 9-0 run put the Bucs up eight and they led 35-29 at the break.
After a layup by the Bucs pushed their lead to eight (37-29) out of the gate in the second half. Trevecca turned the table again and regained a four-point lead (43-39) with 15:20 left. Trevecca led 47-44 with with 12:54 left in the game. CBU rallied and led by as many as 14 (70-56) with 3:59 left. Trevecca cu the led to single digits again, but could no closer than nine, which ended up being the final margin (74-65).
Percy Blade (SR/Louisville, KY) returned to action for the first time this season with 19 points, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Blade hit 7-of-11 from the field and 2-of-3 from three-point range. Donovan Donaldson (SO/Nashville, TN) added 15 points, five rebounds, and two assists. Devin Whitfield scored 13 points and tied Cameron Paulding (FR/Columbus, GA) with a team-high six rebounds will hitting 5-of-9 from the field.
Trevecca hit 41% (24-58) from the field, 35% (6-17) from three-point range, and 73% (11-15) from the foul line. CBU topped TNU in rebounding 34-28 and bench scoring 31-2. Points in the paint (38-22) and second chance points (13-4) also wen the way of the Bucs. TNU led in points scored off of turnovers (20-11) and fast break points (9-4).
