Trevecca Men's Basketball | TN Wesleyan Rallies over Trojans 92-88

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball (5-10, 1-0 G-MAC) lost a non-conference game, 92-88, vs. Tennessee Wesleyan College (12-1) on Thursday at the Trojan Fieldhouse.

Trevecca returns to Great Midwest Athletic Conference play on Thursday, Jan. 14 when they play Davis & Elkins College (5-8, 0-0 G-MAC) in Elkins, W.Va. at 6:30 PM. Trevecca is 2-2 all-time versus the Senators. TNU has won the last two meetings. Trevecca plays at Alderson Broaddus University (8-4, 0-0 G-MAC) in Philippi, W.Va. on Saturday, Jan. 16 at 3 PM. The Trojans are 0-5 all-time versus the Battlers.

Trevecca is 5-4 all-time versus Tennessee Wesleyan College in regular season games. The Trojans have other exhibition wins over the Bulldogs, including this season's homecoming game win.

 

Tennessee Wesleyan opened the game with a three-pointer from Jordan Hall, but Trevecca roared back with a 7-0 run and a 7-3 lead at the 16:49 mark. After the Bulldogs cut the lead to one (7-6) on Hall's second three pointer, Trevecca used a 6-0 run to take a seven-point (13-6) lead with 16:04 to go. The Bulldogs regained the lead, 22-21, at the 11:19 mark of the half with a 13-5 run. Trevecca scored the next 11 points for a 32-22 lead with 9:01 to go in the half. Trevecca built the lead to 17 (43-26) with 5:28 to go. At the half the lead was 14 at 50-36.

 

Mac Walden (SR/Versailles, KY) scored 12 in the first half and Jalen Palm (SR/Louisville, KY) added 10. They combined to hit 4-of-8 from three-point range. Matt Gamberoni (SR/Mulhouse, France) had nine first half rebounds.

 

The Trojans opened their lead back out to 16 with the first basket of the second half and held at least a double digit lead until the 8:45 mark of the second half. That's when the Bulldogs cut the deficit to just eight (70-62) with a 6-0 run. A Mac Walden free throw made the Trojan lead nine (71-62) again with 8:02 remaining, but the visitors took the lead at 82-81 with 1:53 to go with a 20-10 run. Trevecca regained the lead at 83-82, but that would be their last lead. The Bulldogs went ahead 84-83 and never trailed again and picked up the 92-88 win.

 

Byron Sanford (SR/Louisville, KY) and Mac Walden each scored 20 point. Matt Gamberoni scored 10 and added 13 rebounds for a double-double. Sanford added eight rebounds and five assists.  Gamberoni added three assists and three blocks. Jalen Palm scored 15 while Jacob Williams (SO/Lebanon, TN) also added 10 points.

 

Trevecca shot 47% (32-68) from the field, 39% (11-28) from three-point range, and 87% (13-15) from the foul line. Trevecca had the rebounding edge 41-33. The Bulldogs shot 48% (34-70) from the field, 38% (10-26) from three-point range, and 78% (14-18) from the line. Matt Brown came off the bench to score a game-high 22 points, hitting 9-of-13 from the field.
