Women's Basketball | Trevecca Hits Triple Digits Over Central State; 6th Consecutive Win

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca women's basketball team (13-9, 10-2 G-MAC) was in the Fieldhouse again on Saturday, February 14 against Central State University (7-16, 4-9 G-MAC) and grabbed their sixth straight win, 107-58. They are now 8-0 in the all-time series versus Central State.


The Trojans will travel to Philippi, W. Va. on Thursday, February 19 to play Davis & Elkins College (11-11, 7-6 G-MAC) at 4:30 p.m. The Trojans are 3-0 in the series against D&E with the most recent win, this season January 24, 93-70.

 

Trevecca saw an early lead in the first half with a 13-4 run going into the first media time out. Haley Felker (SR/Kingston Springs, TN) scored three more out of the time out with a basket and the and one, adding to the lead. Kaci Britt Bell (SR/Mt. Juliet, TN) did the same helping the Trojans to six straight. The Marauders did not see another good basket until 9:44 left to play. Trevecca was four-for-four on threes the rest of the half, the final from Keonda Fields (JR/Memphis, TN) at the buzzer to finish the half with a 43 point lead, 61-18.

 

In the first half, Trevecca shot 68.6% from the field (24-of-35), 77.8% at the arc (7-of-9), and 75% from the behind the line (6-of-8) to Central State's 15% (6-of-40), 20% (3-of-15), and 37.5% (3-of-8).

 

The Trojans played a solid second half to not only keep that lead but continue to stretch it out. The Marauders did come out of the break fighting for every possession to cut into that deficit. Jordyn Bond of the Marauders was four-for-four on threes to lead the Marauders in a 17-17 run to keep up with the Trojans. The Trojans broke out of that treading water stage with a 16-7 run that lasted from the from 7:04 to 2:48 and break the Trojans into triple digits and the largest lead of the game, 52.

 

Fields finished out the game shooting 100%, 2-of-2 in the field, 1-of-1 behind the arc and 4-of-4 behind the line for nine points. She also had three rebounds, one assist, and one steal for the Trojans. Bell led in scoring with 23 points. She also grabbed six rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Christina Curtner (SR/Chapel Hill, TN) led assists with five and also marked 12 points along with Paige Baugher (JR/Mt. Juliet, TN). Haley Felker led in rebounding with eight. Morgan Long (SO/Summertown, TN) also contributed 11 points for the Trojans.
