Women's Basketball | Trevecca Takes Loss at Cedarville

CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Trevecca women's basketball team (7-9, 4-2 G-MAC) lost to Cedarville (15-2, 6-0 G-MAC) on Saturday. After winning the first two in the all-time series, the Trojans have lost three in a row to the Yellow Jackets. CU owns the series mark 3-2 now.

 

The Trojans will head home and play Alderson Broaddus on Thursday, January 22 at 6:00 p.m. in the Trojan Fieldhouse. The Trojans are 2-0 against Alderson Broaddus all time. Coach Van Atta looks to get his 600th career win.

 

The Yellowjackets took the lead early in the first half with a 17-2 run. The Trojans fought to close the gap with a 15-3 run led by Sarah Raby (SO/Lynchburg, TN), who earned seven of those 15, to put the Trojans down by one (22-21) with 6:37 left in the half. Unfortunately the Yellow Jackets closed the half with a 16-5 run and led 38-26 at the break.

 

Kaci Britt Bell (SR/Mt. Juliet, TN) and Christina Curtner (SR/Chapel Hill, TN) combined to score the first five of the second half, cutting the CU lead to just seven (38-31) with 18:41 to go. Bell hit a three-point basket with 12:16 to go that pulled the Trojans to within four (47-43). Haley Felker (SR/Kingston Springs, TN) hit a three with 7:25 to go to pull TNU to within five (54-49), but CU scored nine (9) of the next 11 points for a 12-point (63-51) advantage. From there the Trojans were only able to cut the lead to single digits one more time and fell 69-59. 

 

Cedarville outshot Trevecca 46.8% (22-of-47) to 29.6% (21-of-71) from the field and 35.3% (6-of-17) to 28.1% (9-of-32) from behind the arc. Trevecca had 23 fouls to Cedarville's 14, resulting in CU hitting 19-of-31 from the foul line while TNU hit eight of their 12 tries at the line.

 

Trevecca had the edge in three key enhanced scoring areas. TNU had a 17-10 edge in points scored off of turnover, 12-2 in second chance points, and 24-18 in bench scoring. CU had a 44-39 edge in rebounding.

 

Haley Felker and Sarah Raby each scored 11 points. Felker was 3-6 from three-point range and Bell was 2-4 from three. Felker added four rebounds and a steal. Curtner had nine points and five assists. Bell added five rebounds and eight points. Raby and Paige Baugher (JR/Mt. Juliet, TN) each collected a team-high six rebounds.
