2014 Trevecca Hall of Fame Announced: Coon, McCool, Van Beek Honored

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Two former Trevecca Trojan All-American athletes and a favorite coach will be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame Saturday, November 8, 2014, during theTrevecca Homecoming. Ashley McCool Cozart, a former softbal player, and Brad Coon, from the Trojan baseball program, will join former women's basketball coach Julie van Beek Heisey to construct the Trevecca Hall of Fame class of 2014.

 

The Trevecca Athletic Hall of Fame, which was started in 1993, now has 60 members.

 

Julie van Beek Heisey (women's basketball coach 1996-2005)

Heisey, who restarted the Trevecca women's basketball program in 1996 and developed the program into a national power, led the program to the NAIA national championships in only her fourth season.

 

Heisey built a NAIA national power at Trevecca and in short order. Her career record at Trevecca is 162-119. After starting her coaching career with a 4-24 record in her first season at TNU, she quickly turned the program into a winner, posting a 15-14 record in her second season.

Brad Coon (baseball 2003-2005)

Coon was Trevecca's a NAIA All-American center fielder for two seasons at Jackson Field. In 2005, he was named the TranSouth Athletic Conference and NAIA Region XI Player of the Year.

 

Coon set six new records in 2005, three single season and three career marks. Upon completing two-years at Trevecca, Coon held the single-season and career records for stolen bases (51 season, 96 career), stolen-base attempts (55 season, 106 career), and triples (8 season, 15 career).

Ashley McCool Cozart (softball 2003-2007)

As a student-athlete at Trevecca, Cozart helped Trevecca to a pair of top-five finishes at the NAIA Softball World Series. She didn't waste any time making her mark. As a freshman, the Ezell-Harding Christian School product was named the TranSouth Newcomer of the Year while also being selected to the TranSouth and NAIA Region-XI First Team. As a junior, she was the TranSouth and Region-XI Player of the Year and a NAIA First-Team All-American.

 

Cozart played for two different coaches at Trevecca. First, she was recruited by and played for Angela Sullivan before completing her Trevecca career under the leadership of Ernie Reynolds.
