NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (41-13) is ranked 26th in the latest Collegiate Baseball poll. It is the first time the program has been ranked in any NCAA Division II poll.
Â
The Trojans, following winning their second consecutive Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) championship last week, is in Mason, Ohio at the NCCAA World Series.
Â
Trevecca, in its final year of transitioning its athletic classification from NAIA to NCAA Division II, is not eligible for the Division II championships this season. Trevecca is hopeful for the final stamp of full Division II membership from the NCAA later this summer.
.
College Baseball Daily publishes the NCBWA (National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association) Top 25 (Poll), which has Trevecca ranked 6th in the Midwest Region (Region Poll).
Â
As Trevecca moves into full membership in the coming school year, they will compete as part of the G-MAC and the NCAA Division II Midwest Region. The region ranking is a big part of the Division II postseason landscape in most D2 sports. Region rankings will be even more important to G-MAC schools during the 2014-2015 season as the conference is still one year away from securing their automatic qualifier status. In 2014-2015 the only way for G-MAC members to advance to NCAA postseason play will be through an at large selection, which will be determined largely by region rankings in all team sports.
