Women's Basketball | Eight in a Row, Trevecca Downs Central State

Box Score

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (14-7, 11-1 GMAC) defeated visiting Central State University (5-12, 1-8 G-MAC) 91-70 at the Trojan Fieldhouse on Thursday. The win setups up a marquee matchup with second-place Cedarville University on Saturday at 2 p.m., again at the Fieldhouse.

In fact, the Trojans have now won eight straight since suffering one of their worst losses of the season (77-56) January 4th at Cedarville. More on Saturday's matchup later.

Tonight, Trevecca struggled a bit out of gate, but by the time the game reached the 11:02 mark of the first half, the Trojans had managed to build a 15-point (24-9) lead. Haley Felker's three-pointer capped the 11-0 run that pushed the lead to 15.

The TNU lead was 15 (39-24) again with 2:16 to go when the Marauders turned up the pressure and cut the lead to just 10 (40-30) at the break.

CSU used that 6-1 run to fuel their start to the second half. They outscored TNU 8-2 to start the second half to complete a 14-3 run that cut the Trojan lead to just four points (42-38) with 16:41 to go in the game.

With 14:19 to go CSU was still within six (54-48) when the Trojans turned the table for good with a 17-0 run that pushed the lead to 23 (71-48). The Marauders never pulled to within 15 of the Trojans the rest of the way.

Trevecca outscored Central State 51-40 in the second half alone.

Paige Baugher led the Trojans with a career-high 17 points, hitting 5-of-10 from the field, 2-of-4 from three-point range, and all five free throw attempts. Baugher added two assists, two rebounds, and an assist.

Kaci Britt Bell had a team-high 18 points and added 14 rebounds for another double-double. Bell was one of three players with three steals, a block, and an assist. Anna Mitchell (14), Sarah Raby (10), and Helen Mitchner (10) all scored in double figures. Raby also had six rebounds and three steals. Mitchner had three steal, two assists, and two rebounds.

As a team Trevecca shot 42% (26-62) from the field, 43% (9-21) from three-point range, and 77% (30-39) from the foul line.

Each team collected 42 rebounds while the Trojans outscored the Marauders 26-20 in the paint and 26-14 off of turnovers.

Trevecca's game with Cedarville on Saturday not sets up an intriguing matchup. TNU leads Cedarville by just one game in the standings, but the Yellow Jackets would earn the tie-breaker advantage with a win on Saturday as they own the only loss against the Trojans in G-MAC play this year. The winner of Saturday's G-MAC tilt will have a strong leg up on the regular season title and host honors for the G-MAC tournament.

Trevecca will host Cedarville (12-8, 8-2 G-MAC) at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Trojan Fieldhouse.
