Women's Basketball | Take First G-MAC Loss at Cedarville

CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (6-7, 3-1 G-MAC) took their first conference loss today, a 77-56 loss at Cedarville University's (4-7, 1-1 G-MAC) Callan Arena on Saturday. It is the first loss for the Trojans in the series with the Jackets.

Sarah Raby hit  a three-pointer to open the game and Trevecca started with a 6-3 lead after Anna Mitchell completed an old fashioned three-point play when she was fouled on a made basket and made the bonus free throw. It looked like Trevecca was going to continue their success against the Yellow Jackets.

It was not to be as CU rolled off a 30-4 run for a 33-10 with 8:48 to go in the first half.  Down 36-16 with 6:07 to go in the first half, Trevecca cut the Jackets lead to just 14 (36-22) with a 6-0 run 4:08 to go. The Trojans couldn't continue the run and trailed 46-17 at the half.

Trevecca shot 36% (9-25) from the field, 42% (5-12) from three-point range, and 67% (6-9) from the foul line in the first half.

In the second half Cedarville pushed its lead to 22 points (54-32) when Deborah Gordon scored on a layup with 17:54 to go. Trevecca responded with their best run of the second half. Trevecca cut the Cedarville lead to 14 (56-42) on a Helen Mitchner layup with 13:02 left in the game.

The Trojans couldn't capitalize and lost 77-56 to Cedarville. The Jackets outscored Trevecca 31-27 in the second half.

Cedarville defeated Trevecca for the first time in the series between the two teams. It is just the third meeting and Trevecca leads the series 2-1.

Kaci Britt Bell and Haley Felker each scored 11 points to lead the Trojans in scoring. Christina Curtner added 10 points and a pair of steals. Bell also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

Cedarville dominated Trevecca 42-21 on the boards. Cedarville did turn the ball over 23 times to the Trojans 14. Cedarville outscored Trevecca 28-8 in scoring off the bench.

Trevecca's shooting dropped in the second half, shooting just 33% from the field, 27% from beyond the arch, and 50% in the half. For the game Trevecca shot 35% (18-52) from the field, 33% (9-27) from three-point range, and 58% (11-19) from the line.

Trevecca will host Alderson Broaddus University (1-9, 1-1 G-MAC), for the first time in program history, Thursday, January 9 at 6 p.m. The Battlers are located in Elkins, W.Va.
