Box Score VIENNA, W.Va. – The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (11-7, 8-1 G-MAC) maintained a first place tie while winning their fifth in a row. Tonight the Trojans, led by freshman Sarah Raby's 17 points, won at Ohio Valley University (5-12, 2-6 G-MAC) 74-58.
Trevecca is now 2-0 all-time against the Scots.
The game was tight early, but the upstart Scots pulled ahead 14-8 at the 11:33 mark. Raby scored a field goal to cut the OVU lead to three (16-13), but the home team scored five straight for a 21-13 advantage with 9:23 remaining. ÂÂ
Both teams ran dry, outside of a Helen Mitchner basket and free throw, over the next 4:19 of game time. A Saira House field goal at the 5:04 mark sparked a scoring surge, mostly controlled by Trevecca. The House basket put the Scots up seven (23-16), but Trevecca scored six straight to cut the hosts lead to just one (23-22) with 3:55 left in the half.
OVU outscored TNU 6-1 to the break and lead 29-23 at the half. TNU had a 10-4 advantage on points in the paint, but OVU had a 7-0 edge on points scored off of turnover.
The tide of the game turned immediately out of the half time break. The Trojans came out on fire with a 32-8 run that put the Trojans in charge 55-37 with 11:51 to go.
Trevecca's largest lead came moments later when they took a 19-point (58-39) lead with 9:35 to go.
The Scots cut away at the Trojan lead and trailed by just nine (67-58) with 2:12 left. It wasn't enough as the Trojans pushed back with a 7-0 run to claim the 74-58 road win.
After shooting just 37.5% (9-24) in the first half, Trevecca shot 67% (18-27) in the second half. Trevecca outscored Ohio Valley 51-29 in the second half alone.
Sarah Raby led the way with 17 points and was joined in double figures scoring by Paige Baugher (15), Anna Mitchell (13), and Kaci Britt Bell (10). Raby and Bell each grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Mitchell, Christina Curtner, and Baugher all had three assists. Curtner led the team with four steals.
For the game Trevecca shot 53% (27-51) from the field, 37% (3-8) from three-point range, and 65% (17-26) from the foul line.
OVU outrebounded TNU 36-33. Treveca had the edge in points scored in the paint (34-26) and bench scoring (22-13).
Trevecca travels to nearby Salem, W.Va. for a matchup with the Tigers of Salem International (4-14, 0-8 G-MAC) on Saturday for 1:00 p.m. tip. Trevecca is 2-0 all-time against the Tigers.
