Box Score OWENSBORO, Ky. - The Trevecca men's basketball team (5-12, 2-5 G-MAC) lost 92-65 at Kentucky Wesleyan College (11-7, 6-1 G-MAC) on Saturday at the Owensboro SportsCenter.
Kentucky Wesleyan is in second place in the conference standings and now lead the series with Trevecca 1-0.
The two teams, playing for the first time in men's basketball, started slowly on the offensive end. With 14:09 to go in the first half the teams had managed 26 combined points. KWC held a 17-9 lead.
It was then that the Panthers found a burst offensively and outscored the Trojans 10-2 for a 27-11 advantage with 11:52 left in the half.
By the time the clock reached 6:38, the Trojans had cut the Wesleyan lead to four points (29-25).
Though the Panthers regained a double figure lead on a couple of occasions, the Trojans cut their lead to just nine (42-33) at the half.
The Panthers started strong in the second half and built a 16-point lead (53-37) with 16:32 remaining in the game.
A Nick Drake free throw, with 12:33 outstanding, cut the Panther lead to just eight points (58-50).
By the time the clock reached 6:03, the KWC lead had grown to 21 at 77-56.
From there the Panthers controlled the game and defeated Trevecca 92-65.
It was the 500th win for Kentucky Wesleyan coach Happy Osborne.
David Woodard led Trevecca with 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Woodard added five rebounds, four assists and a steal. Byron Sanford connected on 13 points. Jordan Bedwell led the team with six rebounds and added four points. Slay Chol added five rebounds.
As a team Trevecca shot 43% (21-49) from the field, 36% (5-14) from three-point range, and 70% (21-30) from the foul line. KWC had a 34-27 advantage in rebounding.
The Trojans were outscored 46-24 in the paint, but had the edge in points scored off of turnover 23-21.
