Women's Basketball | UAH Charges Past Trevecca 103-69

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Trevecca women's basketball (1-1) were on the wrong end of a 103-69 score at Alabama-Huntsville's (3-0) Spragins Hall.   

 

Shannon Steinert hit a three-pointer with 13:27 to go in the first half to put the host Chargers up 22-13. Trevecca responded with a 11-0 run that was capped by a Sarah Raby layup that gave TNU their first lead (24-22) at the 11:45 mark.  UAH pulled ahead again, but with 7:42 to go Rachel Bollinger hit a pair of free throws to cut the Charger lead to just one (31-30). The UAH lead was three (45-42) at the break.

 

The Trojans aided a hot shooting Charger squad with more turnovers early in the second half. The result was a 34-7 run for UAH to start the second half and with 11:42 to go the Chargers led 79-49. The Chargers eventually outscored the Trojans 58-27 in the second half for a 103-69 victory.

 

 Christina Curtner led Trevecca with 15 points while Rachel Bollinger (13) and Kaci Britt Bell (11) also reached double figures in scoring. Bollinger added four steals. Curtner also had a team-high six rebounds and assists. UAH outrebounded TNU 36-15 in the second half.

 

UAH shot 45% (36-79) for the game while Trevecca hit just 34% (24-70). From three-point range the Chargers had the edge 37% (11-30) to 20% (5-25). TNU had the edge 70% (16-23) to 62% (20-32) from the foul line.

 

Trevecca ended up with 27 turnovers while Huntsville only gave it up 13 times.  The Chargers aided the Trojans turnover woes with 19 steals to Trevecca's three.  The rebounding edge (55-45) and points off turnovers (27-11) went to UAH 55-45.

 

Trevecca will host the Pops Duncan Classic @Trevecca starting Friday when they play the Missouri-St. Louis (1-2) Bears at 5:30 p.m.  The Grand Valley (Mich.) State (0-0) Lakers will play Truman State (Kirksville, Mo.) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

 

On Saturday Trevecca will play Truman State (3-0) Bulldogs at 2 p.m. At Noon, Grand Valley State will play Missouri-St. Louis.
