Box Score 2 NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca softball team (32-14-1, 21-7-1 TranSouth) swept NAIA #RV Martin Methodist (36-18, 20-10 TranSouth) in the final regular season games on Friday. Trevecca forced the run-rule into effect with a 9-0 five-inning win in game one and edged the RedHawks 3-2 in the second game. The sweep extends the Trojan winning to seven games.

Game OneStarting pitcher
Lauren Baker (12-5) picked up the win in the circle and helped her chances with a lead-off home run in the bottom of the first inning. The round tripper ignited the Trojan offense to a four-run inning.
Kari Mason followed with a single and moved to second an out later when
Heather Shuler singled.
Lindsey Stephens joined the hit parade with a single that scored Mason and advanced Shuler to second. With two away
Nicole Davis singled and scored Shuler and Stephens. The score remained 4-0 TNU until the Trojans added three more runs in the fourth.
Caitlyn Bailey led off the fourth with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Baker. Mason moved Bailey to third with a sacrifice fly. With two away
Breanna Zeis reached on a walk. A wild pitch scored Bailey from third and moved Zeis to second. Shuler walked and moved to second win a single by
Lindsey Stephens loaded the bases. Aubry Jordan followed with a single that scored Zeis and Shuler for a 7-0 TNU lead. The Trojans entered the bottom of the fifth needing just a run to force the run-rule into play. With one out
Lauren Baker singled and scored when
Kari Mason hit a two-run game-winning home run.
Trevecca had 11 hits and no errors while the RedHawks were limited to just three hits. The Trojans handed RedHawk star Chrissy Darnell (17-2) just her second loss of the year. Darnell pitched four and a third innings and allowed all 11 hits and all nine runs with five walks and a strikeout. Baker pitched five innings and allowed three hits, three walks and struck out two.
Lindsey Stephens was 3-for-3 with a double, a runs scored, and an RBI.
Lauren Baker and
Kari Mason were 2-for-3. Baker had the home run with an RBI and a run scored. Mason had the two-run home run, two runs scored, and two RBI.
Game TwoThe second game was far different as Trevecca managed just one hit in the game. The RedHawks produced eight hits, but had just two runs to show for it .Trevecca won the game with a key hit and terrific defense. In the three-run second inning Trevecca scored all three runs on one hit, but with the benefit of two RedHawk errors.
Heather Shuler opened the at bat with a walk
Lindsey Stephens reached on an error and moved Shuler to second.
Kelsey Kemp reached on a fielder's choice and Shuler was forced out at third.
Nicole Davis followed with a a single to shallow center that loaded the bases.
Ansley Brantley hit the ball to the pitcher who threw home to get the second out of the inning with a force out of Stephens at home plate.
Caitlyn Bailey came through for the Trojans as she reached on a wild throw. In the process Bailey advanced to second while Kemp, Davis, and Brantley all scored.
Katlin White delivered a two-run double in the fifth inning for the RedHawks two runs. The RedHawks threatened again in the seventh.
Natalie Papini came in to pitch for Trevecca. With one out and Martin Methodist runners on second and third, Panini drew a grounder from Veronika Fukunishi. The grounder was fielded by
Kelsey Kemp who fired the ball home where Trevecca catcher
Nicole Davis blocked the plate and tagged out Cynthia Takahoshi for the second out of the inning. The RedHawk threat was completely extinguished when drew another grounder to
Kelsey Kemp off the bat of Chrissy Darnell. Kemp fielded and threw on to Brantley at first for the final out of the game.
Riley Mashburn (9-7) pitched the Trojans to victory with six innings of work. Mashburn allowed six hits, two runs, two walks, and had one strike out. Papini pitched the seventh for her fourth save of the year.
The only Trojan hit came off the bat of
Nicole Davis. The RedHawks had eight hits and two errors.
Saturday will be Senior Day for Trevecca's four seniors:
Caitlyn Bailey,
Lauren Baker,
Kari Mason, and
Riley Mashburn. The Trojans seniors will be honored following the exhibition double-header with Columbia State, which will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Trevecca has qualified for the NCCAA Mid-East Regional. The regional will be played at Covenant College on Lookout Mountain, Ga. On Monday, April 30. Trevecca will play Ohio Christian at 8 a.m. Nashville time.
