No. 2 Union Spoils Senior Night, Defeats Trevecca

Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca women's basketball team (10-17, 6-9 TranSouth) concluded the home portion of its season Thursday night with a 69-43 loss to No. 2 Union (28-2, 15-1) at the Trojan Fieldhouse. It was Senior Night at Trevecca, with Trojan seniors Elizabeth Pentecost and Chelsey Taylor playing the final home games of their careers. With the win, the Lady Bulldogs get the season sweep over the Trojans, and Union now owns a 36-6 edge in the all-time series. The Bulldogs also clinched their sixth consecutive TranSouth Conference regular season title with the victory.

Union wasted no time jumping on top, scoring the game's first nine points before Trevecca got on the board with 17:01 left in the half on a bucket by Anna Mitchell. A three-pointer by the Bulldogs' Lavanda Ross gave Union its first double-digit lead, 20-8, with 11:48 left until halftime. The lead was 25-11 with 8:41 remaining in the half, when a bucket by the Trojans' Anissa Ragland ignited a 10-3 spurt over the next 3:16 for Trevecca to pull the Trojans within seven points (28-21). But Amy Philamlee drained a three-pointer to spark Union on a run of its own, and the Bulldogs outscored the Trojans 11-4 the rest of the half and took a 39-25 lead into the locker room.

As the second half started, the Trojans struggled offensively, failing to score for more than eight minutes after halftime before Haley Felker scored on an offensive rebound and putback with 11:54 left in the game. The Bulldogs took advantage of Trevecca's struggles, pushing the lead to as many as 30 points before settling for the 26-point victory.

Anna Mitchell led the Trojans with 14 points and added nine rebounds. Kayla Biles and Anissa Ragland added eight points apiece. Ross led Union with 20 points and added eight rebounds, five steals, and four assists. Mt. Juliet native Rebecca Sharpe added 12 points on four three-pointers, and Mildred Olumasi added 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Trevecca shot 30% (17-56) from the field, but made just 1-of-10 from three-point range. The Trojans converted 8-of-13 from the free throw line. Union shot 40% (25-63), including 12-of-35 from beyond the arc, and knocked down 7-of-12 free throws.

The Trojans will conclude the regular season at Martin Methodist (17-12, 6-9 TranSouth) Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
