Box Score JACKSON, Tenn. - The
Trevecca Trojan men's basketball team (12-8, 4-3 TranSouth) lost 67-60 in a
hard fought game at No. 25 Union (14-7, 7-1) on Thursday night at Fred DeLay
Gym. Trevecca's
Eric Orr posted 16 points and 10 rebounds in the loss. Trevecca
led for more than 30 minutes of the game, but an 11-3 run to close the game
earned Union the win.
It was the last time
the long time rivals will play a game as TranSouth members in Jackson. Both
teams are in the first year of their transition to NCAA Division II status.
Union has been accepted to the Gulf South Conference and Trevecca has been
accepted to the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. The teams will play on
February 23 in Nashville. It will be the final TranSouth regular season game for
both schools.
With Union leading
9-6, Trevecca used a 11-0 run to take a 17-9 lead with 12:03 to go in the half.
With 7:34 remaining Union had cut the Trojan lead to just one point at 19-18.
The Trojans answered by exploding for eight unanswered points in less than two
minutes for a 27-18 lead at the 5:26 mark. Union whittled away at the Trevecca
lead, but couldn't come closer than 33-32 with :46 seconds left.
Michael France
hit a three pointer to close the half and Trevecca led 36-33.
Eric Orr hit a field
goal with 16:38 to go in the game to put the Trojans up 42-34. Over the next
four minutes the Bulldogs would outscore the Trojans 12-4, tying the game at 46
with 12:39 on the clock. Union eventually took their first lead of the second
half 54-53 Leventrice Gray scored a field goal with 8:38 to go. The game was a
near stalemate for the next six minutes and the teams combined for six points.
Trevecca led 57-56 at the 2:29 mark, but the Bulldogs outscored the Trojans11-3
over the final two minutes for the 67-60 victory.
JP Nyadaro joined Orr
in double figure scoring with 12 points for Trevecca. Nyadaro was 6-9 from the
field and added five rebounds. Orr was 7-16 from the field.
Michael France, who
was held to seven points, led Trevecca with four assists. Trevecca shot 39%
(24-62) from the field, 50% (6-12) from three point range, and 86% (6-7) from
the foul line.
Union outrebounded
Trevecca 34-32 while Anthony Freeman had a team-high 16 points and six
rebounds. Union has won eight in a row over Trevecca. The Bulldogs have won six
in a row overall and 10 of their last 12.
Trevecca will be back
in the Trojan Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon for a matchup with No. 9 Martin
Methodist (16-4, 6-1 TranSouth) at 4 p.m.
