Box Score 2 NASHVILLE, Tenn. - NAIA No. 7 Trevecca (32-3, 19-1 TranSouth) swept
Martin Methodist College (19-20, 5-11 TranSouth)Thursday afternoon. The
Trojans took the first game 10-2 in six innings, and won the second game
7-0. In doing so the Trojans swept the season series 4-0 against the RedHawks.
Trevecca has collected 30 wins eight times now in their 20 years of
softball. All eight 30-win season have come in the last 10 years. In the
last 10 years the two season below 30 wins were in 2004 (29-17) and
2009 (21-19).
GAME ONEBoth teams posted a pair of runs in the first inning. In Trevecca's half of the second,
Kari Mason reached on a one-out walk and advanced to second with a stolen base.
Karli Rush reached with a hit by pitch. A wild pitch moved both runners up just before
Lauren Baker doubled to score both runners.
Trevecca took the lead with two more runs in the second.
Melinda Patterson reached on a one-out walk to start the inning. Mason singled with two out just before Rush reached on a walk to load the bases.
Lauren Baker reached on a dropped fly by Martin Methodist, scoring Mason and Rush for a 4-2 TNU lead.
The Trojans put the game out of reach with a five-run fourth. In the fourth Patterson led off the inning with a single. An out later Mason bunted safely. A wild pitch moved both runners up to second and third and Rush reached on a walk to load the bases for a second time in the game. A wild pitch scored Patterson. Baker walked to reload the bases.
Breanna Zeis made the RedHawks pay with a grand slam home run.
TNU added a single run in the sixth to force the 8-run rule into effect. With two out in the sixth, Trevecca's
Hannah Schnebly, who had entered the game to pitch the top of the sixth, singled. Zeis walked and
Tori Hulan came in to run for Schnebly.
Haylee Rogers singled through the hole at second and Hulan scored the winning run from second.
Lauren Baker (17-0) pitched five innings for the win. Baker allowed five hits, two unearned runs, and two walks while striking out three. Katlin White (5-4) took the loss for the RedHawks. White pitched four innings and allowed nine hits, six runs, five earned runs, and five walks while striking out four Trojans.
Kari Mason was 2-3 with three runs (30) scored, a walk, and a stolen base (13).
Breanna Zeis was 1-3 with a grand slam home run (7), four RBI (37), a walk, and a run scored.
Lauren Baker was 1-4 with a run scored, a double (8), four RBI (28), and a walk.
GAME TWOTrevecca scored two runs in the bottom of the second for the second game in a row against the RedHawks.
Kelsey Lantrip was hit by a pitch and advanced to second with a stolen base.
Kari Mason singled, moving Lantrip to third. Rush grounded out to short, but Mason advanced to second. The next three Trojan batters,
Lauren Baker,
Breanna Zeis, and
Haylee Rogers, were hit by a pitch from Chrissy Worth. Baker's loaded the bases while the hit-by-pitch to Zeis and Rogers forced in a Lantrip and Mason.
Trevecca added three runs in the fourth. Rogers singled to lead off the inning. Shuler walked and an out later
Melinda Patterson doubled, scoring Rogers and moving Shuler to third. With two out, Mason singled to drive in Shuler and Patterson.
The final runs came in the fifth when the Trojans added two more for a 7-0 lead.
Lauren Baker lead off the inning with a solo home run. Zeis followed with a single and scored when Shuler doubled. Â

Kari Mason was 2-3 with a run scored (31) and an RBI.
Kelsey Lantrip was 0-2, but had a run scored (32), a walk, and three stolen bases (9).
Lauren Baker was 1-2 with a run scored, an RBI (28), a walk, and a home run (7).
Riley Mashburn (13-3) pitched a complete game (9) shutout (2) over the seven innings. Mashburn allowed just three hits and two walks while striking out two RedHawks. Chrissy Worth (9-9) took the loss, allowing just one hit, but walked one and hit four Trojan batters in the first. Worth gave up two runs. Caroline Ezell relieved Worth and pitched 4.2 innings allowing six hits, five runs - all earned, and walked three while striking out three. Â
The Trojans return home for a rare Saturday when the Bethel Wildcats (14-12, 9-7 TranSouth) visit for a 4 p.m. doubleheader. Trevecca will host Blue Mountain (4-22, 2-12 TranSouth) on Monday in a 2 p.m. doubleheader.Â
