Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trojan men's basketball team (10-13, 4-7 TranSouth) dropped a 73-70 decision to #RV Cumberland (14-9, 8-3 TranSouth) Saturday afternoon at the Trojan Fieldhouse. The loss was Trevecca's fourth in its last five games.
Five Trojans scored in double figures, led by
Marquise Rudolph with 19, but that wasn't enough to offset a game-high 31 points by Cumberland junior forward Michael Sweat.
Trevecca got off to a good start, leading by as many as 11 points in the first half, before the Bulldogs rallied to cut the deficit to just two at the half, 40-38.
The Bulldogs opened the second half on an 8-0 run to surge ahead, but the Trojans answered with eight straight points of their own to re-take the lead 48-46 on a bucket by
Michael France with 13:50 left. After Kyle Upton's 3-pointer put CU back on top,
Jeremy Dixon nailed a 3-pointer and France scored again to give the Trojans their last lead at 53-51 with 10:40 to play. The game was tied at 56 with just under seven minutes left when a 3-pointer by Sweat started the Bulldogs on a 14-5 run that made it 70-61 with 2:05 left. The Trojans got as close as two in the final minute, but missed several chances to tie it in the game's closing seconds.
In addition to Rudolph's 19,
Michael France scored 17 points before fouling out,
JP Nyadaro added 12, Dixon 11, and
Keith Morris 10. Dixon, Nyadaro, and Rudolph tied for the team lead in rebounds with six, and France led the Trojans with five assists.
The Trojans will travel to Batesville, Ark., for a matchup with Lyon College (7-16, 1-10 TranSouth) Monday
night at 8 p.m.
