Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca volleyball team (16-12, 8-3 TranSouth) dropped a heart-breaking 3-2 decision to Freed-Hardeman (15-6, 9-2) Thursday night at Moore Gym, falling 25-21, 25-22, 18-25, 14-25, 12-15. The win by the Lions salvages a season split with the Trojans and gives FHU sole possession of second place in the TranSouth Conference standings.
"I'm really proud of our effort tonight," said Head Coach Jayme Crowley. "I can't ask for any more than that from my team. I just wish we could have closed the deal."
The Trojans looked to be on their way to a victory after two sets. Both were closely played, with neither team able to lead by more than five points, but Trevecca did just enough at the end of each to win the set. Unfortunately, the Lions began to really dominate on the attack, and the Trojans couldn't regain the momentum necessary to pull out the win.
Freed had a 67-47 advantage in kills, as well as a .225 attack percentage compared to .123 for Trevecca.
Jenna Robertson had 11 kills to lead the Trojan attack, while
Kirsten Taylor added 10.
Halley Wiggins tallied 42 assists, and added eight digs, two kills, one block assist, and one service ace.
Kristen Johnson led Trevecca with 20 digs, and added nine kills, two assists, and one block assist.
"We put ourselves in position to win," added Coach Crowley. "We've just got to figure out how to put a match away when we've got control of it like we did tonight. Our effort was much better than Tuesday, so I'm pleased with that. Freed is a good team, and you have to give them credit for continuing to battle and earn a tough win on the road."
