Box Score LEBANON, Tenn. - The Trojan men's basketball team fell behind early and trailed throughout, ultimately losing 75-59 to Cumberland University Saturday afternoon at the Dallas Floyd Recreation Center.
Trevecca (8-8, 2-2 TranSouth) fell behind 8-0 in the opening minutes, answered with a 7-2 run of its own, and closed to within two points on two separate occasions in the opening half, but could never get even with the Bulldogs (7-7, 3-1 TranSouth), who won for the third straight time in the series. A layup by
Marquise Rudolph cut the Cumberland lead to 18-16 with 9:40 left in the half, but the Trojans would get no closer. The Bulldogs answered with five quick points, and led by as many as nine late in the half before settling for a 32-25 lead at the break.
The Bulldogs scored the first six points of the second half to push the lead to 13 (38-25), and Trevecca would not get any closer than 12 points the rest of the way, trailing by as many as 22 points in the second half.
Trevecca shot 34% (17-50) from the field, 19% (3-16) from 3-point range, and 76% (22-29) from the free throw line. Cumberland shot 45% (29-65) from the floor, 43% (6-14) from beyond the 3-point line, and 65% (11-17) from the charity stripe.
Rudolph and
JP Nyadaro scored 15 points apiece to lead the Trojans, while Michael Sweat led all scorers with 22.
The Trojans will travel to Henderson, Tenn. Monday night for a matchup with the #RV Freed-Hardeman (10-7, 2-1 TranSouth) Lions at 8 p.m. Game time is 8 p.m.
