Tenn. - The No. 12 Trevecca Trojans (17-5, 9-1 TSAC) defeated Martin
Methodist (13-10, 4-5 TranSouth) 65-58 Monday night at Moore Gym.
Trevecca holds a 24-7 advantage in the all-time series.
After
trailing by as many as 11 points in the first half, the Trojans pulled
within 27-26 at halftime break. K.C. Van Atta's 3-pointer in the
opening minute of the second half sparked the Trojans on a 19-4 run to
give Trevecca a 45-31 lead with 12:55 left in the game. The lead grew
as large as 19 before Martin Methodist whittled it down to single
digits in the final minute of play.ÂÂ
Neither
team shot the ball well from the field, with the Trojans making just
21-59 (36%) shots, including 5-16 (31%) from 3-point range, and the Red
Hawks shooting just 29% (17-58) overall and just 1-12 (8%) from 3-point
range.ÂÂ
Christian
Gibson led three Trojans in double figures with 17 points, and added
five rebounds, two assists, and three steals. Abby Lawson added 15
points, seven rebounds, three steals and two assists, while K.C. Van
Atta chipped in 10 points and five rebounds. Whitney Robison led Martin
Methodist with 20 points and nine rebounds.
Trevecca will host No. 23 Bethel University (13-9, 4-5 TSAC) on Thursday at 6 p.m.
