Box Score

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - NAIA No. 3 Trevecca (18-3, 7-2 TranSouth) returned to action for a home tilt against No. 1 Union University (22-1, 10-0) on Thursday, falling 80-69 for their second consecutive loss. Trevecca lost at No. 6 Freed-Hardeman a week ago.

Union jumped out early thanks to a big effort on the offensive glass from Josephine Owino. Owino had nine rebounds and 12 points in the first half, but the Trojans hung around. Christian Gibson started strong for the Trojans, netting eight points of her own in the first period, and at the break, Union led by four 38-34. Coming out of the break, Union seized the momentum, scoring the first five points of the half, and the Trojans suddenly found themselves down by nine 43-34. Trevecca battled back, tying the game at 49-49 and 51-51 before Union reclaimed the lead for good. Down the stretch, Union hit their shots - in the second half, the Bulldogs shot 60% - and the Trojans would get no closer than four in the final five minutes. Union sealed the game at the foul line, winning 80-69.

Jennifer Bognar was one of four Trojans in double figures, netting 16 points. Abby Lawson scored 14 in the game, Gibson had 13, and Angelica Sails added 12 in the loss. Bognar and Gibson each had five rebounds to lead the Trojans, and Gibson dished out five assists as well. As a team, Trevecca shot 24-of-63 (38.1%) from the floor, 9-of-23 (39.1%) from behind the arc, and 12-of-20 (60%) from the charity stripe. Union outrebounded the Trojans 44-28.
